Chapter 879
Why does Haley still look so stunning even with those two scars on her face?
"Grandpa, Dad, Hollis." Haley flashed a smile and greeted everyone. Bryan chimed in, "Haley."
"Even I, the so-called illegitimate daughter, know to greet my elders and relatives. How come Ava doesn't get that basic courtesy?" Haley smirked. "Ava's got Hollis as her mom to teach her, yet she's so rude. If she had grown up as lonely and miserable as I did, who knows how she'd turn out."
Hollis's face went ice-cold with anger. Haley had just thrown her own words right back at her.
So, when Haley showed up at the Lumi Family, she must've been hanging around outside for a bit before coming in. Haley's one sneaky woman!
"Hollis, chill out," Haley said with a grin. "No matter how immature Ava is, she's still my sister. I'll make sure to teach her some manners in the future."
"An illegitimate daughter has no right to teach me!" Ava snapped, fuming.
"Ava, zip it," Bark said coldly. "You are a collateral member of the Lumi Family. Don't you even get basic manners?"
Ava was so mad she felt a knot in her stomach. It's not that she didn't get etiquette; she just didn't want to greet Haley, that annoying woman!
But since Bark had spoken, she had no choice but to comply. Reluctantly, Ava greeted Haley.
Haley smiled slightly. "Can we get down to business now?"
Ava perked up and sneered, "Haley, why don't you first explain where the funds for the resort project came from?"
Haley narrowed her eyes. "Why should I explain this to you?"
"Not to Ava, but to Father," Hollis said calmly. "The resort's account holds ten billion dollars, with three billion coming from the company's finance department. Where did the other seven billion come from?"
Haley's eyes flickered. So they called her here for this?
Since the project hadn't been handed over to the company for operation yet, the investment details hadn't been reported. But even if they hadn't been reported, it wasn't a big deal. Was this minor issue worth such a fuss?
"Haley, seven billion dollars suddenly disappeared from the petrochemical project's account. Hollis suspects we diverted it," Bryan whispered.
Haley suddenly laughed. She smiled, her eyes sparkling. "Hollis, if your project's public funds were transferred, you should hold your people accountable. Why are you coming after me?"
"We lost seven billion dollars, while you gained seven billion dollars. Who else should we suspect?" Ava said through gritted teeth. "Transferring public funds for private use is illegal. If you don't want to end up in court, you better return the seven billion dollars."
Haley looked at Bark. "Grandpa, do you also suspect me?"
Bark said calmly, "The company has already started investigating this matter, but there are no results yet. If you can provide evidence proving your innocence, that would be best."
Haley turned to Cauth. "Do you think I had anything to do with this?"
"Haley, of course, I believe you," Cauth said firmly. "I know you would never do such a thing."
