Chapter 185

"The timing is too perfect, isn't it?" Keith said slowly, "Owen got in a car accident, and Haley just happened to be there and then saved him by donating her blood to him. What a coincidence!"

His voice was deep and raspy, unlike a four-year-old boy.

Ivan's eyes narrowed, "You think Haley staged the accident?"

"She had a motive," Keith pressed his lips together firmly and continued, "Surely you're aware of the bad blood between Mom and Haley..."

"It wasn't her," Ivan stated flatly.

He had already been briefed on the accident. It was indeed premeditated. Someone had the audacity to target his son. But that someone couldn't possibly be Haley.

"Dad, are you so certain it isn't this woman when the investigation is still ongoing?" Keith's voice chilled, "What if it turns out to actually be Haley?"

"She wouldn't hurt Owen," Ivan looked at him with conviction. "She saved your brother; you shouldn't suspect her."

Darkness crept into Keith's eyes.

His mother was right, after all. Haley had completely won over his father's trust. His mere suggestion of a rational doubt antagonized him. The woman was leveraging Dad's trust, and who knows what she would do next.

"Dad, before the truth comes out, I'd prefer Haley kept her distance from Owen..."

Keith was interrupted mid-sentence when Owen, who had been asleep, suddenly opened his eyes.

"Keith, what the hell do you mean?" Owen glared angrily, "Haley treats me like her own. She couldn't possibly be behind the accident! How can you throw accusations around so recklessly?"
Keith's lips curled up in a wry smirk, "No one just happens to be nice to someone else for no reason, especially since she's got a pretty rocky history with our birth mother. Haven't you ever thought about why she's getting close to you? Owen, don't let your carelessness and naivety bring down the entire Winston family."

"So what, you think I'm naive too?"

Ivan rose to his feet, his presence filling the room as though the temperature had dropped a few degrees. Keith's mouth tightened into a line. His hands balled into fists gradually. He wanted to know everything about it before drawing any conclusions, while Owen and Dad just trusted Haley without question. It seemed like nothing he said mattered at all.

"I've got work to do, Dad; I'm heading back to the office," Keith said, abruptly turning to leave. As soon as he left, Owen's eyes reddened, and with a choked voice, he said, "Dad, don't believe what Keith says. Haley would never hurt me... it's just not possible."

"I know, son, don’t cry."

Ivan calmly seated himself beside the hospital bed, his face the picture of serenity.

Meanwhile, it took Keith a good while to regain his composure. Once settled, he turned to his assistant, "Look into Star Technology."

Russell frowned, "Since when did such a company emerge in Cuenca?"

Keith's eyes lowered and he put on a cold smile. If he hadn't been helping his dad with the paperwork, he wouldn’t have known this woman had already established a connection with Winston Group, using her job as a way in.
