Chapter 910
"Angela!" Haley's eyes went wide as she bolted to catch Angela.
But she was too slow. Angela's head smacked the nightstand hard, knocking her out cold.
Holding Angela, Haley's eyes blazed with fury. When she looked up, Martin had already pulled a gun from his waist.
"Haley, even if she's your kid, she's just a pawn to control you. She tried to bite me, so she's asking for it!"
The gun's barrel was aimed right at Angela's forehead.
Haley's anger surged like a tidal wave. She took deep breaths, trying to keep herself from doing something reckless.
Haley closed her eyes. When she opened them again, they were calm and clear. "Martin, let my kid go, and I'll go with you. Otherwise..."
She pulled a shiny knife from behind her waist. "Otherwise, you'll only get my corpse."
Martin's eyes darkened. "How many more knives have you got hidden?"
"Honestly, these past two weeks have been hell. I've thought about offing myself more than once," Haley started slowly. "But I was scared that if I died, the kids would be left without a mom, so I clung to a shred of hope. But now I see that having a mom like me is their biggest curse. Only if I die can they live like normal kids."
As she spoke, the blade pressed down bit by bit. A bloodstain instantly appeared on her delicate neck.
"If you die, I'll make sure your four kids die with you," Martin said in a sinister tone.
To his surprise, Haley immediately let go of Angela, placing her on the carpet.
She stood up with the knife to her neck. "I'm ready to die, so I don't care. If you kill my kids after I die, it'll just reunite us in heaven. I should thank you for that."
The knife went a bit deeper, and blood droplets began to fall.
Martin frowned angrily. "We'll leave now, without Angela!"
He had no choice but to compromise. Haley always managed to hit his weak spots.
Time and again, it seemed he had no bottom line or principles left.
Martin walked to the door first, opened it, and turned back impatiently. "Aren't you coming?"
Haley took a deep look at Angela lying on the ground with a determined light. She had only one choice left.
Haley pressed her lips together and followed Martin out of the room.
Brenda was standing in the hallway, her lips trembling. "Martin, where are you taking Haley?"
Martin sneered, too disdainful to respond.
Haley gave her a cold smile. "Brenda, you knew what kind of person Martin was, yet you still tricked Angela into coming here. Aren't you afraid Angela will die at Martin's hands?"
"Angela is his family too; he wouldn't be that cruel," Brenda began, but Haley pointed to the room.
The door was open, revealing Angela lying unconscious on the carpet, a knife covered in blood on the floor. Brenda's breath caught.
Haley lowered her voice. "Are you satisfied, Brenda?"
"Haley, no." Brenda shook her head vigorously. "It's impossible."
"Don't you call the police?" Haley stared at her. "Your son wants to kill your granddaughter."
Brenda's face turned pale, her lips and fingers trembling, but she had no intention of calling the police.
Haley's face was full of disappointment. She had given Brenda a chance, but Brenda had let her down once again.
From today on, the kids no longer had a grandmother named Brenda.
