Chapter298

The motorcycle sped away into the night.

Haley felt a chill on her right arm.

Turning to look, she saw her clothes were torn, and the chilly wind blew through the tears, making her shiver.

"Mr. Keith, are you alright?" The mechanic, Wyatt, dashed over and picked up Keith to check him over.

Keith was pale but managed to say, "I'm fine."

His gaze shifted to Haley with a complex expression. "Thanks for saving me."

If it weren't for Haley's quick reflexes, he would have been hit by that motorcycle.

"It's good you're okay," Haley said flatly and got back into her car.

At that moment, she couldn't comprehend why she had reacted the way she did.

She was risking her life for Emily's son. What a noble move.

"Mommy, is your hand hurt?" Todd leaned forward, his eyes filled with concern.

"It's just my clothes. I'm all right." Haley smiled.

She buckled her seatbelt and pressed the gas pedal, driving off the winding mountain road.

Todd glanced at Keith in the rearview mirror, and until their car disappeared from view, Keith's gaze lingered on them intently.

He pressed his lips together and said, "Mommy, Keith is hard to read, very enigmatic. You should probably keep your distance from him in the future."

Haley's grip on the steering wheel faltered. "What did you just say?"

"I was saying, I hope you keep your distance from Keith. He's way too sharp, nothing like Owen, he—"

"Did you call him Keith?" Haley slowed the car abruptly. "That kid we just saw, his name is Keith?"

Todd paused, taken aback.

Haley and Ivan was so close, yet it seemed like she had never met Keith.

But from the look on Mom's face earlier, she clearly knew Keith but didn't know his name.

"Mom, his name is Keith. He's Owen's older brother," Todd said slowly.

Haley's hands stiffened again.

Keith.

Keith.

She had heard that name many times from Ivan. She knew Keith was Owen's brother, and had always assumed that Keith was at least three or four years older than Owen. She had pictured Keith as a precocious eight or nine-year-old but she hadn't expected him to look the same age as Owen, apparently twins.

That kid was Emily's son. named Keith. Ivan's eldest son was also named Keith.

She began to piece the puzzle together.

Keith and Owen were twins, meaning Emily also gave birth to twins five years ago.

A look of disbelief covered Haley's face.

"Mommy? What's wrong?" Todd asked, concern in his voice.

"It's nothing," she brushed off his concern, resuming her drive.

With her eyes on the road, her mind was in turmoil.

Ivan told her that he and Emily wasn't involved yesterday. To think that she actually believed him.
