Chapter 190

Was he really that dumb? Owen wondered. Haley couldn’t hold back her laughter any longer.
Todd had always been reserved, never one to flash his gifted intellect like a neon sign. Yet today, he had wielded it like a hammer to school Owen, a clear sign he now cared about Owen. It was unusual; Todd had loathed Owen not long ago. What had changed so suddenly?

Haley's gaze locked onto Todd, trying to decipher the enigma written on his face. Under the scrutiny, Todd squirmed and, standing up, excused himself with a, “Mom, I need to hit the bathroom real quick.”

He darted out the door, only to collide with the figure lingering at the entrance of the room. Keith had arrived earlier.

Standing just outside, he hadn't pushed through the door, yet the room's laughter and chatter spilled out. He knew, even without seeing her, that the merriment was Haley's doing. Though he wouldn't admit it readily, her voice played through his mind, soft and soothing like spring breeze, a no-brainer why Owen was so smitten by her.

Having schemed against this woman just yesterday, Keith had no intention of a face-to-face, so he had waited outside. And then, this unexpected jolt from a kid.

Their eyes met, each registering the mutual surprise. Todd's eyes sparkled with recognition. This kid, so similar in height, seemed oddly familiar...

Narrowing his eyes, Todd's mind raced through a myriad of possibilities, “Are you here to visit Owen?" he asked slowly.

A nod from Keith, his tone barely above a whisper, “Yeah. What about you? How do you fit into Owen's story?”

Was this guy an old classmate? Or something more?

As Keith spoke, the voice of Ivan echoed in Todd's ears, gradually syncing up with the voice before him, the two faces merging in his imagination.

"You're the prodigy brother of Owen, the one who spoke eight languages at three?" Todd asked with an icy tone.

Keith's acknowledgment was serene; “Who are you?”

A smirk played on Todd's lips. He had thought Owen's brother would be a cousin or something more distant, yet it turned out to be his biological brother.

So, Ivan had two sons but still bothered Haley?

The man was a first-rate cad.

Keith, sharp as ever, sensed the growing frost in the kid's eyes and frowned, questioning again, “Who exactly are you?”

This feeling of losing control irked Keith to no end.

The door to the room suddenly swung open, revealing Angela. She was wearing a pink dress, her hair disheveled and adorned with a headband, and she had those striking eyes.

Keith, who had never genuinely fancied anyone or anything, found himself startled by the thumping of his heart.

There was an undeniable urge within him to draw near this girl...
Todd casually blocked the view, discreetly taking Angela's hand, and whispered, "Let's go to wash our hands."

He slowly led Angela away, vanishing down the corridor.

Keith's gaze lingered for a moment before retracting it.

Those kids must have been Keith's schoolmates from preschool. A quick inquiry should reveal the girl's name...
