Chapter 245
Haley put her glass down.
If Cuenca's finest were already working for Jeremy, she'd have to seek out the top legal eagle in Xyleria.
Money talks, and with enough of it, there's little you can't get done.
Haley barely had a connection in the legal arena, so she went online to dig up contact info for a law firm.
"What's that? Has the other side secured Graham Hunter as their defense attorney? I'm sorry, but nobody here can hold a candle to Graham Hunter in court. You'll have to look elsewhere for counsel."
Graham Hunter. That’s Justin's college buddy mentioned before.
Haley asked with a hint of nonchalance, "Isn't there anyone in that circle who can outshine Graham Hunter?"
"Absolutely not! He's a legal prodigy. Fresh out of his twenties, he established Cuenca's largest law firm. I'm one of his fanboys. But if you insist on comparing someone to Graham Hunter, it would be Garrett Leonard. You know Garrett, right? The heavy-hitter lawyer that's always on the legal channel. His golden tongue is the stuff of legends. Only Garrett might have a shot at beating Graham Hunter."
A spark of interest flickered in Haley's eyes, "How can I get Attorney Garrett on board?"
"You're not seriously thinking of approaching Garrett, are you? The guy's an enigma—he only takes on cases that pique his interest. He comes from money and doesn't need to earn a living from practicing law. It takes on maybe two cases yearly, and only those scandalous, high-society ethical morasses. Pretty eccentric."
The guy was chatty, and Haley promptly cut him off mid-sentence, hung up after a quick thanks, and typed Garrett Leonard's name in a search engine.
Several pages popped up instantly, media descriptors reading 'Legal Vanguard,' 'Chosen One of Justice,' Golden-tongued,' and 'Top-tier Lawyer,' Just to list a few, for his personality. He was singularly labeled as quirky.
He wouldn't take on uninteresting cases, even if they were worth millions of dollars.
But for the cases that intrigued him, he'd jump in without a second thought, even at a cost to himself.
This guy was indeed exceptional.
If she could get Garrett to represent her, she wouldn't have to fear for her children's custody.
Haley dived into a private group online and, after some lurking, stumbled upon a critical piece of information.
Garrett had opened a law firm in Cuenca. Given Garrett's lack of regular presence, it wasn't prominent, so it was operating in an uneventful stage.
Garrett was scheduled to attend the firm's annual report meeting tomorrow morning at nine.
Bright and early the next day, Haley drove to the law firm.
Surprisingly, a horde of people was already there.
"I have to see Garrett today. With him on my case, we're sure to win," someone declared.
"Back off, I was here first. If anyone's going to see Garrett, it's me!" another retorted.
"Move! Garrett's consultation fees are in the hundreds of thousands per hour. Step aside if you can't afford it!" shouted yet another.
The crowd outside the office was noisy.
Soon, a car pulled up at the law firm's doorstep. Before the doors opened, several bodyguards stormed out of the building, forming a protective barrier around the area.
A man in a gray suit stepped out of the car, wearing glasses that refined his appearance. However, behind the lenses, his eyes seemed to carry a sharp gleam, as if nothing could escape his gaze.
