Chapter 320

She was grateful that her sons were still alive.

It seemed like a miracle that they had survived.

It must have been a divine gift.

"Haley, what's wrong..." Owen struggled to breathe as Haley held him tight, but he didn't dare make a sound, fearing the embrace would end all too soon.

Then, he felt warm tears spatter his cheeks.

He looked up to see Haley's eyes brimming with unshed tears.

He suddenly felt panic. "Haley, what's wrong? Did I do something wrong again? I'm sorry, Haley. I won't do it anymore."

He hastily pulled away from her embrace.

A twinge of pain struck Haley's heart.

These past few days, she had intentionally stayed away from the Winston residence and avoided Owen. She couldn't imagine how heartbroken Owen must have felt.

This was her son, not Emily's. Yet, she punished her own flesh and blood. She owed them so much.

"Owen, you didn't do anything wrong, Owen. Not a thing," Haley pulled him into her arms and stroked his hair with her chin. "I'm the one who's sorry, Owen. I shouldn't have ignored you all these days. From now on, I'll come to the Winston residence every day to cook for you. Whatever you feel like eating, I'll make it for you..."

Owen's eyes widened in disbelief. "Really? Haley, you're not kidding me, are you?"

"Don't call me Haley, you should call me—" Her words lodged in her throat, unfinished.

"Call you what?" Owen asked, tilting his head.

"For now, just call me Auntie," Haley said, the taste of bitterness on her tongue.

If she were to reveal everything about what happened five years ago, Todd and Angela's secret would come to light, and Ivan would surely take custody of both children.

It was too big a gamble for her to take.

As long as the children were alive and well, as long as she could see them happy, that was enough for her.

"Haley, are you really okay?" Owen asked, concern evident in his gaze.

"I'm fine." Haley wiped away her tears and smiled. "I'm just…so overwhelmed with joy, I don't know what to say."

Owen didn't yet understand the concept of tears of joy.

He lifted his chubby little hand and helped wipe the tears from Haley's cheeks.

"Owen, can I see your photos from when you were little?" Haley asked gently.

Owen nodded vigorously. "Sure, I'll go get them."

He hopped off the couch and scampered upstairs.

Before long, he was back, clutching several thick photo albums.

Haley flipped to the pictures of the hundred-day celebration, where the two little ones lay in the crib, their large, round eyes wide open.

One lay composed, a spitting image of Ivan, clearly Keith. The other was restless, looking all around.

"This must be you," Haley said with a smile. "You were such a handful, even as a kid."

She turned the page, and her finger paused suddenly.

It was a "family portrait" page.

Ivan and Emily stood side by side, each holding a child.

The four of them together, a perfect family of four in the photo.

Haley asked slowly, her finger resting on the photo. "Did Emily treat you and Keith well?"

"I don't know if she was nice to us, but I don't like her." Owen pouted. "Haley, even though Emily is my mother, I like you more. I really wish I could call you Mommy..."
