Chapter 35 The Unexpected Response
Haley calmly explained the origin and destination of the fifty percent ownership of the DeRoss Group.
After speaking, she said lightly, "In Mr. Winston's opinion, is it reasonable for me to take back the shares my mother left me?"
"Not reasonable." Ivan uttered these words indifferently.
Emily's face showed a hint of ecstasy. This man truly considered things from her perspective! With Ivan's words, she had a reason to refuse to sign the share transfer agreement. Even her grandmother couldn't blame her for it.
Haley's face turned cold. Sure enough, she shouldn't have trusted this man. She wasted her breath for nothing. She was about to speak again, when Ivan's voice rang out.
"Haley, if I were you, I would do whatever it takes to reclaim all the shares." His voice carried a coldness. "How can you leave half of the inheritance your own mother left you to someone else?"
Haley was stunned for a moment. Did he mean that what he said earlier was unreasonable?
Did she misunderstand him?
"Ivan..." Emily's lips trembled, "you and I..."
Her lips opened, but she had no idea what to say. She had given birth to two sons for the Winston family, but Ivan had embarrassed her in front of this little bitch, Haley. It made her feel like her face had been slapped hard several times.
"Heh heh heh!" Flora dryly laughed to ease the tension. "Ivan, you don't know. Emily and Haley are good sisters, so Haley is willing to give half of the shares to Emily. This is a matter between them, as sisters, so let's not interfere. Let's continue eating."
If they continued speaking, Emily's other half of the shares would likely be taken away by Ivan with just one sentence. Madam DeRoss looked at Ivan with a hint of appreciation in her eyes.
She calmly said, "Steward, is the stock agreement ready?"
The steward had prepared it after the old lady gave the order and was already standing at the entrance of the dining room with the documents. Emily and Flora exchanged a glance, and they both saw the unwillingness in each other's eyes.
Emily was quickly thinking, ‘half of the shares, worth billions of dollars, are given away just like that. How can I be willing? But Ivan is here. If I refuse, my image in Ivan's heart will be completely ruined.’
She began to feel better about it, ‘I’m going to marry into the Winston family as Mrs. Winston, so this small amount of shares means nothing to me! Furthermore, that little bitch Haley might not even see tomorrow's sun! Once Haley is dead, these shares will return to me!’
With this in mind, Emily's smile finally gained a touch of sincerity. She walked over, and voluntarily, signed her name on the agreement. Twenty-five percent of the shares, returned to Haley’s hands just like that.
She put away the share agreement, her face calm as if it was not a big deal. “You all enjoy your meal. I will go lie down inside.”
Madam DeRoss couldn’t hold on any longer, and stood up, leaning on the butler's hand. Haley stood up and held the old lady's right hand.
"Grandma, let me help you inside." Madam DeRoss nodded, and the two of them entered the lounge.
Outside the banquet hall, the atmosphere was still lively. Ivan's first visit to the DeRoss family made everyone think that the marriage between the DeRoss family and the Winston family was a done deal.
"Ivan, there's a new movie released recently. Why don't you and Emily go watch it in the afternoon?" Flora said with a smile, "After the movie, you can go shopping and then have a romantic candlelight dinner together."
Emily shyly lowered her head and refused, "Ivan must be busy in the afternoon. There's no time to watch a movie."
"Oh, come on. Even if you are busy, you should make time to strengthen your relationship with your girlfriend," Emily's aunt spoke up, "You two have been dating for three to four years. It's about time to settle down. Ivan, don't blame me for being nosy, but look, Emily is not getting any younger. The sooner you get married, the better."
Before she could finish her words, a chilling gaze swept over. A sense of coldness crawled up Emily's aunt's spine.
Ivan coldly smirked, "First, I don't have a girlfriend. Second, I can't marry Emily."
This statement completely severed their relationship. Emily has always known that this man was unwilling to marry her, but he has never been as clear as he is today. And he has never embarrassed her like he did today either.
Ever since she became the mother of the Winston family's little prince, her status in the DeRoss family has risen tremendously. She often bullies others in the DeRoss family using the power of the Winston family.
But now, Ivan publicly tore it away. He had revealed her layer of false and glamorous facade.
She trembled all over, almost fainting.
At that moment, Haley walked out of the lounge. She picked up her bag from the dining chair and spoke softly, "I have something to take care of, so I'll leave first."
"We'll leave together." Ivan pushed his chair away and stood up, following Haley's footsteps.
With his long legs, he caught up with Haley in just a few steps, walking side by side with her out of the DeRoss family villa.
The grievances in Emily's eyes instantly, turned into anger. Ivan's sudden humiliation must be because Haley had returned! That wicked Haley must have known something!
"Oh my, why would Ivan offer to take Haley back?" Emily's aunt, who liked to watch the drama unfold, said with glee, "Could it be that Haley also wants something with Ivan?"
"Just because you're silent doesn't mean you're dumb," Emily gritted her teeth, "If I can't become Mrs. Winston, then the DeRoss family will forever be a second-tier wealthy family."
"Emily, why are you picking a fight with me?" Aunt looked displeased, "Even when Ivan said such hurtful words just now, I didn't see you arguing with him. Now that I'm just speaking the truth, you aim at me. It's just because you're bullying me for not having a say in the DeRoss family."
"That's right! If you can't capture Ivan's heart yourself, why blame us?" another aunt chimed in, "Besides, Haley is prettier than you. Who knows, she might become Mrs. Winston, and we, the DeRoss family, can still rise to the top-tier wealthy families."
The words of the two aunts infuriated Emily to her core. She took a deep breath and lowered her voice, "Mom, I can't tolerate it anymore. Don't wait until tomorrow, do it now, find someone to get rid of her!"
Flora patted her back, "Last time at the cemetery, that wicked woman became more cautious. We need to carefully plan this, take it slow."
