Chapter 370

If they confessed to the children's issue, it turned out that Ivan had a different motive.

The office was eerily silent.

Seconds and minutes ticked by.
Haley had just picked up the two kids from preschool and was planning to head straight home, but after considering it, she decided to visit the Winston family instead. No matter how Mrs. Winston might treat her, Haley had a promise to keep to Owen.

She drove with focus until she suddenly heard Todd speak up, "Sis, what's wrong? Are you feeling okay?"

Glancing in the rearview mirror, Haley noticed Angela, who usually sat quietly, squirming restlessly, her face etched with discomfort. "Angela, tell Mommy, what's the matter?"

Haley asked softly, slowing down the car. Angela hugged her pillow tightly and shook her head, her voice a mere whisper, "I'm not feeling unwell." Her unease was palpable, though.

After a pause, she asked softly, "Mommy, where's Daddy?"

The night before, Daddy had promised he would pick her up after school. Haley smiled gently, "Daddy had some things to take care of and went home early, sweetheart. We'll see him when we get back."

Angela's expression visibly brightened. Haley smiled, somewhat relieved.

Spending time with Ivan recently seemed to have had a positive effect on Angela, who was almost indistinguishable from a child without autism. While she was still not very talkative, she began to call Haley "Mommy" and Todd "Brother" and slowly started to accept new things. Gradually, she was behaving like a typical four-year-old child...

Later that evening, around seven o'clock, they pulled up in front of the Winston Group's villa. Alfred, ever respectful, was waiting at the entrance. "Miss DeRoss, you're ten minutes late today. I was starting to think you wouldn't come," he said.

Haley, holding onto the children, replied, "Something held us up. Is Mrs. Winston in?"

"Mrs. Winston is at a charity dinner, not expected back until ten," Alfred said with a smile, bending slightly. "Angela, may I hold you?"

Angela opened her arms, allowing Alfred to scoop her up into his embrace.

"Angela, Mommy!" Owen burst out of the villa gleefully, clamoring onto Haley with both arms and legs.

He sounded a bit upset as he said, "I've been worried since six o'clock. I felt uneasy, thinking maybe Mommy wouldn't come tonight."

Haley was about to offer some reassuring words when Something made her halt. Hadn't Angela felt the same uneasiness all the way here?

She looked down at Todd and asked, "Todd, do you feel anything uncomfortable?"

Todd pursed his lips and said, "My chest feels a bit heavy. Maybe it's going to rain. Yeah, I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable."
Alfred held Angela and laughed heartily, "I just checked the weather report, and it's going to be sunny for the next few days, with rain only coming the day after tomorrow."

Haley's fingers stiffened slightly.

The three kids all felt a discomfort stirring within at the same time. Could it be...

She looked up and said, "Alfred, could you give Keith a call and ask him where he is?"
