Chapter 206
"Star Technology, right?"
Todd felt his heart sink. The man indeed knew everything.
He pressed his lips together, stepping forward to enter the room.
Pushing the door open, he stood at the entrance and said, "Mom, I want to go home."
Haley, in the midst of feeding Owen, paused and looked up in surprise, "Why the sudden urgency? Give me five more minutes to finish helping with Owen, and we'll go."
"I want to go now."
Todd was rarely this insistent, especially not in front of so many people. It was out of character for him to act so willfully.
Haley thought Todd wasn't feeling well, so she turned to Ivan, "Could you help Owen a bit? We need to go now."
Todd had already turned and left, with Haley quickly grabbing Angela's hand to catch up with him.
Suddenly, the hospital room was left with just father and son.
Owen, still with food in his mouth, looked at the empty room, his lips quivering. "Daddy, what did you do? You must have scared Todd away. And Haley and Angela left too. I feel upset now..."
He burst into tears, and the food spilled all over the bed.
Ivan was speechless.
He too wondered why Todd would suddenly want to leave when he thought their conversation seemed to be going well. Racking his brain, he couldn't figure out what he might have said to offend Todd.
But with Owen's painful cries and the soup from the bedside tray spilling over and making a mess, it was not the moment to ponder about that.
At the hospital entrance, Haley walked with the two children.
At first, she thought Todd was feeling sick, but she was beginning to suspect there was more to it.
She took Todd's hand and asked gently, "Was it something Ivan said to you?"
Todd pressed his lips together, silent.
There were some things he didn't want to discuss.
If he hadn't been unable to contain his emotions, he wouldn't have impulsively asked to leave.
He had longed for his father's love, dreamed of returning to his father's side, but his father had attacked his mom's company.
It was something he couldn't just accept.
His gloom was so evident that even Angela picked up on it.
The little girl stepped forward and tugged at his sleeve gently.
Haley stared earnestly at her son, "Todd, don't keep it inside, I'm your mom. You can trust me," Looking into his eyes, she continued, "Can you tell me what happened?"
After a moment, Todd said, "The other night, someone hacked your company’s website."
Haley nodded, "I'm aware of that. And then?"
"The hacker... I think it might be Ivan."
As he spoke, some of the heaviness seemed to lift from him.
It was as if voicing his thoughts had lightened his mood.
Haley stroked his hair reassuringly. "That's a serious accusation. Are you sure?"
Todd looked confused. "That night, the hacker covered his tracks by routing through an overseas server, using a decoy, before striking the website. It was clever, but I tracked it down. The IP address traced back to the Winston family... It has to be Ivan!"
Haley shook her head gently. "It's someone from the Winston family, but not Ivan."
