Chapter 166

"Hello there! Are you looking to buy a piano for your child? Is it for a boy or a girl?" a sales associate greeted them warmly.

Haley had Todd hold his sister’s hand while she followed the associate to look at pianos.
As one of Cuenca's top piano shops, even the most affordable piano here hits a price point that's just shy of six figures, with some creeping towards a cool million.

Fortunately, Haley wasn't strapped for cash. Even if she were, she wouldn't dream of cutting corners for her child.

She had begun her piano journey alongside Emily at the age of five, both of them dedicating over a decade to the craft. Sure, they'd fallen off in recent years, but the foundation still held strong.

After testing several pianos, Haley settled on one, declaring, “The sound of this piano is quite remarkable, especially the vibrato—pure perfection.”

The sales associate beamed, “It seems you have a fine ear for pianos. This is our pride and joy.”

“I know a bit, just enough. I’ll take this one please. Could you deliver it to—”

Just as Haley began to divulge her address, a silhouette approached from the side.

“Hold on a minute.”

Emily sauntered over in her heels, arrogance written all over her face.

She gave Haley's slender fingers a disdainful glance, with a frigid chill flashing in her eyes.

Back when they both learned piano, Haley invariably outscored Emily by a substantial margin in their tests.

Green with envy, Emily went to the lengths of bribing their piano teacher for over a decade, ensuring Haley’s scores stayed below hers.

Touted by her father as a piano prodigy with promises of studying abroad, Emily, plagued by guilt and later consumed by her role as heir to the DeRoss Group, never pursued piano further.

Now, witnessing Haley test out pianos stirred up a whirlwind of unpleasant memories.

Emily had just decided to get serious with her lessons under Miss Alice, and what, Haley was buying a piano too?

Was Haley mimicking every move she made?

Haley raised an eyebrow and let out a sarcastic chuckle. Talk about a small world—of all the people to run into while buying a piano, it had to be the last person she wanted to see.

She crossed her arms and sneered casually, “What, does my buying a piano somehow bother you?”

“I'll take this piano.” Emily said coldly, whipping out her credit card. “Charge it.”

The sales associate interjected, “This customer here was first to show interest. Miss, perhaps I could show you another piano…”

“No, I want this one!” Emily snapped with a mocking smirk, “I’ll pay triple.”

The employee tried to reason, “It's not just about the price; we have a first-come, first-served policy…”

"Triple," Emily insisted impatiently, waving her card.

Haley burst into laughter, “Fine, you can have it for triple. Go ahead and charge her card.”

With the customer’s blessing, the sale was as good as done. The sales associate smoothly processed the transaction at the counter.

Emily's sneer was self-satisfied, “Smart move.”

Haley's gaze swept across the store indifferently. Sure, the piano she played might have been the best this shop had to offer, but to someone who’s seen better, nothing here held any appeal.
Angela had merely picked a piano at random within sight, a casual first encounter for her with the instrument.

Who knew that someone could swoop in and snatch it right from under her nose?

But at triple the price, it was enough to leave Emily swallowing a bitter pill in silence.

Haley's gaze swept over Emily coldly before she turned on her heel and left.
