Chapter 923
Bark looked like he was chewing out Haley, but really, he was just making sure Hollis couldn't get a word in edgewise.
The four kids didn't even bat an eye. Lately, they'd been walking on eggshells, doing everything they could to avoid ticking off Haley. Her temper was no joke.
But today, Hollis and Ava just had to push her buttons, and honestly, Haley was holding back more than usual.
Once the table fell silent, Ivan spoke up, cool as a cucumber, "Look, what goes on between Haley and me is our business. But since Hollis brought it up, let me set the record straight. Haley and I are solid, no third wheels, and divorce isn't on the table. Grandpa, Dad, you can chill."
Cauth knew Ivan was super possessive and couldn't imagine him ditching his family. He raised his glass with a grin. "Let's not dwell on the drama. Ivan, cheers!"
Cauth's upbeat vibe kept the dinner from going off the rails.
Meanwhile, Hollis and Ava looked like they'd swallowed a lemon, just sitting there with their forks in hand.
Owen turned and smirked. "Ava's two years younger than my mom, but she looks way older. Guess it's true what they say about angry women aging faster."
Ava, only twenty-two, was fuming. She thought, 'This little brat has some nerve.'
She wanted to put Owen in his place. But Haley's icy stare cut through the air. "Eat your food and don't bother with irrelevant people."
"Yes, Mommy!" Owen went back to his meal without missing a beat.
Ava was seething, feeling like she might burst. This was Lumi Villa, her childhood home, yet she was called "irrelevant".
Tomorrow was the big day for the heir assessment. She was set to become the next heir of Lumi Group, and once she had the power, she'd boot Haley out for good.
Haley didn't even notice Ava's jealous glare.
Cauth and Ivan were deep in a chat about Watertown's economy, with Bark chiming in now and then. Bryan was soaking it all up, and Haley took a sip of champagne before heading to the bathroom to put on some lip balm.
As soon as she got up, Ava trailed behind.
With Bark and Ivan at the table, Ava was barely holding it together.
Haley stood in front of the mirror, applying her lip balm, then added a touch of lipstick, making her tanned skin pop.
Just as she capped the lipstick, she saw Ava's reflection in the mirror. Without turning around, she said, "Here to touch up your makeup too?"
Ava crossed her arms and sneered, "Haley, this is my house. Why are you acting so high and mighty?"
"Your house?" Haley put away her lipstick and turned to face her. "This is Lumi Villa. Is your last name Lumi?"
