Chapter 325
The four of them got into the car. Ivan took the wheel while the three kids squeezed together in the backseat.
Keith, usually stoic, softened his expression and pulled out a colorful assortment of candy from his pocket. "Angela, which flavor do you like?" he asked gently.
"My sister doesn't like candy," Todd interjected cooly.
Keith paused, then stretched his hand out even further. "If Angela can't have any, how about you?"
A kaleidoscope of candies was thrust into Todd's hands, sparing him no chance to refuse.
"Owen likes the strawberry ones; you could try those," Keith suggested with a light tone.
Todd pursed his lips and replied softly, "Thanks."
He did not usually care for candy, but at that moment, he unwrapped and placed a pink strawberry candy in his mouth.
The sweet flavor spread pleasantly.
The strawberry candy wasn't too bad.
Ivan watched the interactions between the kids in the backseat through the rearview mirror, a hint of warmth softening his usually cool demeanor.
The car drove smoothly along the road, and after about fifteen minutes, they arrived at the Winston residence.
Todd, somewhat confused, spoke up. "Mr. Winston, shouldn't you be taking us home?"
Ivan unbuckled his seatbelt with a calm voice. "Your mom is preparing dinner at the Winston residence; naturally, you'll stay here."
Todd was taken aback once more.
Last night, he told his mother about the incident, thinking she should keep her distance from the Winstons. Yet, she showed up her on her own initiative.
As he was about to help Angela unbuckle her seatbelt, he noticed Keith had already taken her out of the car. The front door swung open, spilling the sounds of the house clearly into the cool evening air.
It was Owen's cheerful cheering.
"Wow, Haley, look how clean I got the cabbage!"
"Good job, Owen!"
"Haley, what else can I do to help? Should I crack the eggs... Oh no, sorry, Haley, I didn't mean to!"
The sound of a bowl shattering echoed from the kitchen.
"Did you hurt your hand?" Haley quickly set aside her work and crouched down to check his fingers. Relieved there was no blood, she comforted Owen, "Owen, you should go play outside; it's safer there."
"But, Haley, I just want to be with you..."
Owen nestled into Haley's embrace, his voice tender and sticky with affection.
When Ivan entered with the three children, he was met with this scene.
Owen and Haley locked eyes. Their gaze was dense with unyielding warmth and love.
Haley had been so indifferent just days ago, yet today, her demeanor had taken a complete turnaround. He didn't understand what on earth was going on.
Ivan turned to Alfred for answers.
Alfred, bending respectfully, informed, "Haley has been here since this morning, playing with Owen in the living room all day."
Even he found it remarkable how Haley, usually so busy, could spend an entire day at the Winstons' doing nothing significant with Owen.
Ivan pursed his lips. "What have they been doing all day?"
"They were just looking through photo albums." Alfred scratched his chin. That was it.
"Wow, Father's home!" Owen dashed from the kitchen. "Father, look, Haley came over! She said no matter what happens, she'll always come and make us dinner. Woah, I'm so happy! Huh, Ketih, you're back too..."
Keith was at a loss for words. It seemed like his presence as really unwelcomed.
He pressed his lips together. "I heard Haley's a great cook, and I've never had the chance to taste her food."
