Chapter 770

If Isabella found someone who looked similar to her husband, she wouldn't feel like she was betraying him.

"I've already told you, I have more important things to do and can't stay in Country Y." Ivan's voice was as cold as ice, carrying a dangerous sharpness. "Queen, let me make this clear, I can make the Black Gang submit, but I can also make them revolt. You'd better release me immediately, or the consequences will be beyond what you can bear."

"I can bear any consequences," Isabella said with a smile. "I'll give you another twenty-four hours to think about it. If you refuse, don't blame me for using other means."

After speaking, she turned and left the dark room, locking the door behind her.

The surroundings fell into silence.

Ivan held his breath, intently listening for any sounds external to his surroundings. Only upon confirming that he was alone did he contort his hands, bound behind his back, and the rope, in a mechanical response, slackened accordingly.

He bent down to untie the rope around his feet, then walked over to pick up his phone from the ground.

To his dismay, the phone was dead.

Ivan tightened his jaw, put the phone in his pants pocket, and began to observe the dark room environment.

It was about eight square meters, with a small window. Standing on a chair to look out the window, Ivan could only see a long, eerie corridor.

There was no one in the corridor.

Maybe he could try to escape.

Nonetheless, the window was inadequate for an adult to transit.

But there was a ventilation fan overhead, just big enough for someone to crawl through.

Just as Ivan was about to move, he heard voices outside the window.

"I am here on my mother's orders to bring him some food and water. Open the door," Aurora commanded coldly.

The royal guards outside promptly produced the key, opening the door and guiding Aurora down the corridor to the dark room, where they reopened it.

The heavy iron door was pushed open.

Light from outside streamed in, making Aurora's figure appear slender and frail.

She turned her head coldly and said, "I need to speak with him alone. Wait outside."

"Yes, ma'am!" The two guards closed the door and waited outside.

Ivan stood with his hands behind his back, the rope messily wrapped around his wrists. He tugged at the rope, quickly estimating his chances of escape with Aurora as a hostage.

"Leonardo, when I open the door, run as soon as the guards are distracted!" Aurora stepped forward, hurriedly untying the ropes around Ivan's wrists, her expression anxious.

Ivan narrowed his eyes and asked, "You're here to rescue me?"

Aurora took out a gun and shoved it into his chest. "You've done so much for our country. You shouldn't be treated like this."

"This is Country Y's territory. Even if I escape,I won't get far before the Queen's wrath catches up with me," Ivan said calmly.

"Facing revenge is better than becoming someone else, right?" Aurora said hoarsely. "You must escape. Staying here won't do you any good."

"The Queen has offered me a position in her cabinet. I think it's worth considering," Ivan said, unperturbed. "Many would kill for the chance to be close to the Queen. If she's chosen me, perhaps this is a significant opportunity for my future."
