Chapter 957
Haley hadn't really eaten anything today either. She got up weakly. "I must've caught a cold last night. I feel sick whenever I eat."
Ivan scooped her up and set her on the living room couch. "You sit here, I'll whip up some porridge."
"Don't bother. I have no appetite." Haley pursed her lips. "Ivan, go hang out with Owen. I need some alone time."
"I'll stay with you. I won't talk or bug you. Just don't make me leave." Ivan sat across from her, a hint of pain in his eyes.
She was hurting. And so was he. Ivan had been through so much.
Haley lowered her eyes. "Ivan, I just want to go for a walk."
"I'll go with you." Ivan stood up, put on his coat, and wrapped Haley snugly in her down jacket. "Let's go."
"Ivan, let me go out alone, please." Haley bit her lower lip. "I just need to be by myself."
"Then I'll follow behind you. I won't make a sound," Ivan said softly.
The once strong and decisive Ivan was now so humble.
"Ivan, please don't be like this. It makes me feel worse." Haley clutched her collar. "I'll come back once I've calmed down. Just let me go for a walk alone, okay?"
She needed to find a quiet place to think about the future.
Ivan looked into Haley's eyes, seeing the pain. He took a deep breath and said softly, "Alright, Haley, go have some time alone. I'll wait for you to come back."
Haley stood on tiptoe and pecked him on the lips. "Ivan, thank you for understanding. I'll come back once I've figured things out."
She turned and walked slowly to the door, opening it.
The night was cold. As soon as the door opened, the night wind swept in, making Haley's long hair fly wildly.
She pulled up the hood of her down jacket, changed her shoes, and walked out.
Ivan followed her slowly, escorting her to the villa's gate.
Ivan's voice was hoarse and low. "Haley, are you sure you don't need me to come with you?"
"Go keep Owen company. He needs you more than I do." Haley touched Ivan's face. "I'll be back soon."
She turned, her figure even more slender in the cold wind.
Ivan stood at the gate, watching her figure gradually merge with the night. A sudden sense of unease washed over him.
Behind him, Todd's voice suddenly rang out, "Daddy, someone is calling Mommy's phone. Where did Mommy go?"
Ivan quickly went over and picked up the phone. "I'll go give this to your mom right now."
He turned and left in a hurry, quickly disappearing into the night.
Todd breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing Haley go out alone just now had worried him. With Ivan accompanying her, he felt reassured.
Todd turned and went back to Owen's room. Owen was still crying, and nothing seemed to console him.
"Mommy just had a nightmare. It doesn't mean anything," Keith said calmly. "If you keep crying like this, do you know how sad and guilty Mommy will feel? She just went out for some fresh air. If you keep crying, she won't come back."
As soon as he finished speaking, Owen immediately stopped crying. "I won't cry anymore. I want Mommy to come back."
"Let's go to sleep now. When we wake up in the morning, we'll see Mommy downstairs making breakfast for us," Angela said, blinking. "Owen, if you're scared, I can stay and sleep with you, okay?"
