Todd pressed his lips together. "It is impossible to hack into the military's system. Looks like we'll need Leonardo's help."
"That's the core secret of every organization; he won't help us," Keith said calmly. "Leonardo mentioned wanting to meet us before. Why don't we meet him first and then try to gather some information?"
Todd nodded slowly. They didn't have any other choice.
The next afternoon, Haley and Thomas headed to the neighboring country's business banquet hall.
Hinterlands was surrounded by eight small countries. The country hosting this business banquet was a developed nation, and the project was to rebuild cities and villages destroyed by war—houses, roads, railways, infrastructure. Everything needed to be rebuilt, and the potential profits were enormous.
Businessmen from neighboring countries were eager to get in on this project. Even before the banquet began, nearly a hundred luxury cars were parked outside the hotel.
Haley wore a luxurious gown with a shawl draped over her shoulders. She walked into the banquet hall arm-in-arm with Thomas.
It was rare to see a beautiful, goddess-like woman here, especially one with a figure as exquisite as Haley's, which was no less impressive than the local women.
As soon as Haley appeared at the entrance of the banquet hall, she attracted countless gazes.
Thomas was a bit displeased. "You shouldn't have worn such a sexy dress."
Haley flashed a bright smile. "Beauty is a woman's greatest weapon. Using it often, one can often achieve twice the result with half the effort."
At this point, she had no other options.
If her looks could get her into the Black Gang quickly, she was all in. Thomas sighed quietly. He wanted to ask Haley if she'd sleep with Leonardo to get info on Ivan, but he didn't dare. He feared her deadly glare.
Haley and Thomas walked up the steps, everyone watching them. At the entrance, a guard suddenly stopped them.
"You can't go in."
The guard's face was stern as he blocked their way. Thomas narrowed his eyes and held up the invitation. "We're with the Ellenstein Group. Why can't we go in?"
"Why?" The guard sneered and lowered his voice. "My nephew York got thrown in jail because of you two. Wasn't it you guys who did it?"
Haley looked at the man in front of her. She had checked the info last night. York's uncle, Louis Anderson, had joined the core military half a month ago to work for Leonardo. She hadn't expected Leonardo's influence to reach here, and it seemed he quite trusted Louis.
Since Haley wanted to work with Leonardo, she couldn't afford to offend these people.
Haley smiled. "You know why York got thrown in jail. While Leonardo was rolling out new policies, York was busy flirting with women right under his nose. Mr. Anderson, by blocking the Ellenstein Group reps from the meeting, you're breaking Hinterlands' new rules, too. If I tell Leonardo, do you know what'll happen?"
Louis's face changed instantly. He didn’t expect Haley to have the nerve to threaten him on his own turf!
"But Mr. Anderson, I get that you're grieving for your family. It's understandable," Haley said with another smile.
She unzipped her purse, pulled out a stack of cash, and stuffed it into Louis's pocket. "Let's not dwell on past grievances."
