Chapter 655
Late at night, the moonlight was bright.
Haley sat on the balcony, tightly gripping a diamond ring in her hand.
It was the ring that Ivan personally put on her finger on their wedding day. Fortunately, she hadn't impulsively thrown it into the trash.
This sea-blue ring become the only thing that reminded her of Ivan.
And where was the ring she had given him?
Haley's face was streaked with tears, looking pitiful and forlorn in the moonlight.
She was never one to cry easily, and she had rarely cried in the past four years, but today she had shed tears repeatedly.
Even though her eyes were already dry, the tears kept falling.
For the first time in her life, Haley felt lost, unsure of what to do next.
If it weren't for her four children, she would have decisively perished together with Martin.
But the four children were her vulnerabilities, the soft spot she had to compromise for.
Just thinking about the children made Haley's heart ache as if it were being cut by a knife.
They loved Ivan so much, but Ivan was no longer here.
Was Ivan really gone?
Why couldn't she bring herself to believe that Ivan had left this world?
Haley bit her already chapped lip hard, her tear-filled eyes gradually becoming resolute.
Alive, she wanted to see him; dead, she needed to see his body.
Unless she saw Ivan's body with her own eyes, she would never believe Katherine and Martin's lies.
She had to find a way to inquire about Ivan's whereabouts.
In the darkness, the sound of leather shoes hitting the floor was particularly clear.
Haley quickly wiped away her tears, hid the ring in her pocket, and then sat back on the edge of the bed.
Martin walked to the master bedroom door, gripped the doorknob, furrowed his brow, and then let go.
Robert had said that after Haley was discharged from the hospital, she went straight back to the Winston family and never stepped foot outside again.
Martin had been restless all afternoon at the office, constantly worried that Haley might do something crazy.
The quieter she was, the more he worried.
But thinking further, with four children around, Haley would likely act rationally after weighing the pros and cons.
Martin smirked and was about to leave when the door opened.
"If you're back, why are you leaving?"
Haley leaned against the doorway, looking at him coldly.
Martin suddenly didn't have the courage to meet her gaze.
But he felt he had done nothing wrong.
It was Haley who had schemed against him, so why should he feel guilty?
Martin pressed his lips together, his jaw tight, and said coldly, "I come and go as I please. Do I need to explain myself to you?"
