Chapter 809
The four children looked at each other in the room.
Tears welled up in Owen's eyes. He sniffled and said, "I thought Mommy was just a little hurt. Why did this happen?"
"Mommy must be very sad," Angela said sullenly.
She was a girl, who loved to look pretty, just like her mommy.
She'd be devastated if her face were marred, weeping daily. Her mother likely shed tears too, just not in their presence.
"No matter what Mommy looks like, she's still our mommy," Todd said calmly, "Don't act like this in front of her, or she'll think we dislike her."
Owen quickly wiped his tears, "Okay, I won't cry. I'll happily wait for Mommy to come back."
Keith pursed his lips and said softly, "Angela, don't you have makeup toys?"
Angela nodded, "Yes, Grandma bought them for me."
Brenda bought her any toy a girl would like. She even had a dedicated playhouse.
Keith pondered, "Do you know how to do makeup?"
"A little bit," Angela tilted her head, "Keith, what do you want to do?"
Almost as soon as Keith asked, Todd understood what he meant. He immediately found a picture online, and handed it to Angela, "Do our makeup like this."
Owen quickly ran upstairs and brought down the makeup kit.
Angela rolled up her sleeves and eagerly started doing makeup for Owen, Todd, and Keith.
The house was tranquil when Haley and Ivan got home.
Usually, as soon as she opened the car door, Owen and Angela would run over and jump into her arms. Today, she didn't see them. Were they still napping?
Haley took off her mask, about to put it in her pocket, but then decided to keep it on.
The wound on her face was deep and in the healing phase, appearing unsightly. Entering like this would undoubtedly frighten the children.
She and Ivan both wore masks as they entered the house.
In the afternoon, the sunset light streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, filling the room with a warm glow and making it look peaceful and beautiful.
"Alfred, where are the four kids?" Haley asked softly.
Alfred, busy with his tasks, replied, "They were just playing with toys in the living room. They must have gone upstairs."
Ivan was about to go upstairs when Haley pulled him back, "They must be playing hide and seek. Let's go up quietly and surprise them."
Ivan complied with her immediately. He and Haley tiptoed upstairs.
Alfred, busy in the living room, smiled with satisfaction.
Ivan and Haley had such a good relationship now. He no longer had to worry about them getting divorced.
Haley quietly pushed open the playroom door. The curtains were shut, casting the room in darkness, clearly indicating the kids were hiding.
She deliberately said, "They're not here either. Where could those little rascals be? Maybe they're hiding in the trees in the yard?"
She took a step back, pretending to close the door.
The next second, the four restless kids jumped out from behind the curtains.
Owen was the first to rush out, "Mommy, we're here!"
