Chapter 413 Keith and Owen Vying for Attention
"Haley, don't worry, I'll never leave you," Todd said slowly from the back seat as if making a vow.
Haley, her grip firm on the steering wheel, smiled with ease. "Todd, don't be so tense. Ivan is your biological father, and it's important for you to spend time with him. It'll be good for you."
"But you'll be hurt. Upset," Todd responded, his emotions veiled behind a controlled facade, his fingers tightening gradually.
"Why would I be hurt or upset, Todd? What are you thinking?" Haley said helplessly, her lips forming a resigned smile. At a red light, she turned to gently stroke her son's face, speaking softly, "Ivan is your father, and Angela is his child too. He'll take care of and protect both of you. I'm too happy to be upset."
Todd glanced downward, opting for silence.
Should Ivan truly care for Haley, Todd would accept him into his life. But should this man dare to harm Haley in the slightest, Todd would be the first to confront the Winston family!
The car glided smoothly toward the Winston household.
Owen had eagerly awaited at the doorstep, hoping to accompany Ivan in picking up Angela from preschool. Yet, Ivan had criticized his attire, insisting he change into something more presentable. By the time Owen emerged in new attire, Ivan had already departed, leaving Owen nearly in tears.
Soon, a black car approached slowly along the winding mountain road.
Owen hastily straightened his collar, stood tall and proud, ready to greet Haley and Angela with the utmost charm.
As the car halted before him, before Owen could call out to Haley, Felix emerged from the driver's seat and opened the rear passenger door.
"Keith, why are you here?" Owen's composure faltered at the sight of Keith stepping out.
Keith typically returned home around eight or nine in the evening, yet it was only six, prompting speculation about the reason for his early arrival.
"Why not me?" Keith retorted with a slight cough. "Can't I come home early if I've completed my work for the day?"
Beside him, Felix remained silent. Aware of an impending evening meeting, Felix knew well that Keith didn't shirk responsibilities just because Owen might need to be more knowledgeable.
With a single glance from Keith, Felix refrained from further discussion. "Keith, I'll return to the office to attend to a few matters," he said respectfully before swiftly departing.
At the villa's entrance, Owen and Keith stood side by side, a contrasting pair against the elegant backdrop.
Owen's frustration was palpable. "Keith, don't you usually head straight to the study upon returning? What are you lingering here for?" he grumbled.
Keith maintained his composure. "I'm doing precisely what you're doing."
"Hmph!" Owen crossed his arms.
He knew Keith was vying for attention, and he was determined not to let Keith steal Haley and Angela's affections.
"Keith, you and our little brother, Todd, share many similarities. You two should converse later in the study, perhaps read together. I'm sure you'll find common ground," Owen suggested subtly, aiming to prevent any competition for Haley and Angela's affection.
Keith responded calmly, "Todd is very clever; you should spend some time with him to learn how he reads a book so quickly. You guys should talk more later."
Owen's expression fell. He detested reading the most...
While the two engaged in their silent standoff, two cars arrived on the winding road, one after the other.
