Amidst the buzz of surrounding conversations, Haley didn't even raise an eyebrow.
She had anticipated this kind of situation when she decided to host the banquet, and it didn't faze her.
Cauth lowered his voice and asked, "Haley, why hasn't anyone from the Winston family arrived?"
Haley smiled and said, "Don't worry, Dad. Ivan and I are on good terms. I asked him to stay away for now."
Cauth let out a silent sigh.
He guessed that Haley was just telling a white lie to put his mind at ease.
In the future, he would have to redouble his efforts to be good to Haley and find her a worthy husband.
Just then, four reporters with cameras barged in from a corner of the banquet hall.
"Mrs. Deross, there are rumors that you and Mr. Winston have divorced. What's the truth about that?"
"Mr. Winston's absence from such an important event as the Lumi Family's banquet today, does it indicate that there are problems in your relationship?"
"Mrs. Deross, you're still wearing your wedding ring. Does that mean you're trying to save the marriage?"
The reporters fired questions one after another.
Haley glanced at the sea-blue diamond ring on her finger and smiled.
She had kept the ring safely in a cabinet until Ivan's return, when she put it back on.
Ivan's original wedding ring had been lost, so she had custom-made an exact replica for him.
Haley's gaze at the ring, coupled with her expression, led the surrounding crowd to believe that she was feeling nostalgic, attached, and regretful.
They concluded that there must be issues in her relationship with Ivan, prompting such emotions from her.
"Who let you in here? Security, get these reporters out!" Cauth barked.
Eight security guards immediately surged in and hauled the four reporters away.
He had strengthened security measures for this banquet, fearing that reporters might ask probing questions, but he hadn't anticipated such a lapse.
Cauth looked at Haley with deep remorse. "Haley, I'm sorry. It was my negligence."
