Chapter 188
After a thorough read, she folded the document and spoke up, her voice indifferent, "Kid, who drafted this contract?"
"Our young master did," replied Russell, “Ms. DeRoss, if everything looks fine to you, the contract will take effect once you sign it."
Haley chuckled. She was striking, exuding a bewitching charm.
And yet, within the depths of her clear eyes, there was a peculiar blend of innocence and mystery.
Keith felt his defenses soften and his detachment give way when he saw her smile. It was as if a hole had been poked through his armor of indifference.
Realizing too late that he had been staring at Haley for a while, frustration surged within him.
This woman must have used that same smile to ensnare Dad and confuse Owen...
"I see a problem," she said, her smile vanishing.
She leaned forward, a sense of authority emanating from her.
Looking Keith straight in the eye, her lips twisted into a disdainful curve, "You should be in school at your age, not out here trying to show off."
With those words, she threw the contract onto the table with force.
The wind from the flying papers tousled Keith's hair, and his face instantly darkened with anger.
Russell's heart skipped a beat in fright. This was the heir to the Winston family, the future helmsman of the Winston Group, but he was treated with such disrespect!
"What do you mean by this, Haley?" Russell demanded, his voice cold, “If you have any issues, you can raise them. With such behavior, don't you think it's quite impolite?"
"When you presented that document to me, you should've expected this kind of reaction," Haley retorted with a sneer, “Such glaring loopholes in the contract; didn’t you think I would notice? Kid, don't rush to run before you've learned to walk. Lucky for you, it's me today, so I can overlook your mistake. But had it been someone else, they might have slapped a fraud charge on you."
Rising to leave, Haley grabbed her purse and headed for the exit.
Just as she reached the door, she turned back, tossing a fifty-dollar bill on the table, "I've got the coffee today. And do send my regards to your mother."
With that, she closed the door behind her, the sound of her high heels fading into the distance.
"Boss, that woman was out of line!" exclaimed Russell, barely able to contain his anger, “So many people are clamoring for a chance to partner with us and we hand it to her on a silver platter. She has the nerve to slam the contract on the table. How ungrateful can one get!"
Keith flipped through the document with an icy expression. He had drafted countless documents before, but this one had taken him an entire all-nighter to finish. Within the contractual text, he had concealed a loophole, a trap he thought only his father would ever detect. Yet, to his astonishment, the woman caught it with just a glance, recognizing the contract as a forgery. She was too clever than expected, effortlessly avoiding the snare he'd laid.
"What should we do now?" Russell asked tentatively.
"Keep a close eye on Star Technology. Report back to me the moment they make a move."
"Understood!"
After returning to her office, Haley took the precaution of reorganizing and backing up all the company's confidential data. For some reason, negotiating with a four-year-old seated across the table gave her a profound sense of unease. The child was alarmingly intelligent, inheriting Emily's cunningness and then some. Being the target of such a precocious child gave her a sense of foreboding. Only after bolstering the company's cybersecurity did she drive off to pick up her child from preschool.
