Chapter 250
Haley replied softly, "I've never thought about finding a father for the kids because I believe I can provide everything a dad could."
"Aren't you overestimating yourself, Ms. Haley?" Ivan's voice deepened slightly. "There are things a mother can never provide."
Haley pursed her crimson lips.
She lifted her cool gaze and asked, "What about you, Mr. Ivan? Haven't you thought about giving Owen a complete family?"
A shadow of coldness crossed Ivan's face.
His lips thinned as he spoke coolly, "I don't find it necessary."
Marriage out of obligation for the sake of a child could lead to a lifetime of unrest.
Haley smiled. She found she had something in common with Ivan. She didn't want to compromise and marry a man she had no feelings for just for her child's sake.
This man, too, wouldn't marry Owen's biological mother just for the sake of the child.
The buzzing of a phone interrupted their conversation.
Ivan took his phone from his pocket, a slight smile appearing on his lips as he glanced at the caller ID.
Haley, standing not two steps away, caught a glimpse of the name on the screen. Garrett Leonard.
'Garrett?!' She was stunned for a moment.
She looked up at Ivan who, without moving away, casually chatted on the phone.
"When did you come back to Cuenca? Dinner at nine o'clock? Come on, Garrett, can't you show a bit of sincerity? I'm swamped. No can do."
He ended the call without another word.
Haley pursed her lips thoughtfully. It had to be the same Garrett.
Judging by his tone, Ivan and Garrett seemed quite chummy.
Haley began to wonder if Ivan would be willing to lend a hand if she asked.
At this point, she was out of options.
Haley approached and asked gently, "Mr. Ivan, may I presume the person you were on the phone with is the esteemed lawyer, Garrett Leonard?"
"Yes, that's him. Do you know him?" Ivan nodded.
"Not personally. I just heard of him," Haley said, pressing her lips together again. "I was hoping to hire Attorney Garrett as my legal consultant. Would you mind introducing us?"
Ivan raised an eyebrow. "If you've heard of him, you should know he doesn't take on corporate cases or act as legal counsel for businesses."
Haley was silent for a moment before replying, "I'm fighting for custody of my children, and it seems Garrett has a wealth of experience in that area."
Ivan's gaze sharpened.
He looked at the woman standing before him, her complexion fair and delicate, her lips a ripe cherry red. On that cool, beautiful face, there was an uncharacteristic hint of anxiety and unease.
He spoke in a softer tone, "Who's the father of your children?"
Glancing over at her son Todd to make sure he was out of earshot, Haley lowered her voice, "The CEO of Chase Group in Xyleria, Jeremy Chase."
A figure instantly flashed through Ivan's mind. The man who had grasped Haley's wrist on the cruise ship was indeed Jeremy.
