Chapter 211

Haley listened quietly to Madam DeRoss's ramblings.

The idea of living in harmony with Emily seemed impossible, with the dark cloud of their shared past looming over them.

She was about to say, "Grandma, I recently met a child who claimed to be Emily's..."

"Crash!"

A loud crash echoed from the second floor, sending glass shards onto the patio below.
Haley's expression turned stern, "What was that?"

Madam DeRoss appeared unconcerned by the noise. "Oh, that's just Emily. She has a habit of breaking things when she's upset. No telling what's gotten into her this time. Haley, you know how it is with you two; it's probably best if you skip dinner tonight..."

Haley nodded solemnly and stood up. Glancing upward, she could clearly see Emily's room from where she stood.

With determination, she took steady steps towards the staircase leading to the second floor.
Inside her room, Emily, unable to contain her anger, threw a vase to the floor.

"This is useless, completely useless! Can't even handle this simple task!" Emily shouted. "Is Haley really that difficult to deal with? Why can't I shake her, no matter what I do?"

Flora, with a voice meant to soothe, tried to calm her, "We did get the video, so it's not a complete loss..."

"But the woman was taken to the police station by Haley. What if she points the finger at me for framing Haley? I'm certainly not going to the police station to explain myself!" Emily had barely finished speaking when the door to the room burst open.

The two turned in unison, only to see Haley standing there with a beaming smile, arms crossed casually at the doorway, with no one certain about how long she'd been there.

Emily's eyes widened in shock, "When did you get here? Who said you could come to my house?"

"And miss out on such an intriguing conversation?" Haley retorted.

She kicked aside the shards of glass on the floor, stepping into the room.

Her icy gaze fixed on Emily, her voice sharp as a knife, "Why did you bribe the perpetrator's mother to frame me?"

Emily glared back, "Since when do I owe you any explanations?"

"First, you send your son after me, and then you step into the ring yourself, Emily. Are you that threatened by me?" Haley teased a lock of hair by her ear, "I'm dying to know what about me intimidates you so much."

Emily faltered, "When have I ever sent my son after you?"

Haley sneered, "Don't play innocent with me. I know exactly what you're made of, Emily. Whatever you're plotting, tread carefully. Push me too far, and there's no telling what I might do."

With those final words, she turned on her heel and left.

Emily stormed out to the balcony, watching as Haley drove away, a surge of rage making her kick the table furiously.

"That wench! How dare she strut around like that! She's infuriating me to death! Mom, what should we do?"

Flora squinted thoughtfully. "How on earth did Haley know about your son?"

"She's met Keith, so she knows. But she's still in the dark about Owen being my son," Emily said, clenching her fists, "No matter what, we can't let that wench find out I have twin boys. Otherwise, we can't keep anything hidden."

Flora walked back and forth decisively. "Keep Keith overseas, and make sure Haley never learns he's a Winston!"

"I know that!"

Emily's face was a mask of determination. Her biggest regret was not having dealt with the twin situation years ago—one less, and everything would have been simpler. Now, with complications gnawing at her, she felt restless and insecure.

Taking out her phone, she sent Keith a video message.
