Chapter 920
Haley slammed the door shut with a bang, and it felt like something snapped in her head.
What the heck was she doing? Why'd she lose it with the kids again?
Wasn't the meds supposed to keep her chill? Why was this happening?
Haley buried her face in a pillow, holding her head in her hands. After what felt like forever, she finally started to calm down.
She grabbed her laptop, pulled up the surveillance feed for the living room downstairs, and saw the four kids just sitting there on the couch, reading.
The living room was dead quiet, except for the wind howling outside.
Haley zoomed in and saw Angela's eyes all red and puffy, like she'd been crying.
Owen's book hadn't been turned in ages, meaning he was still stuck in his feelings.
Even Keith and Todd were just staring blankly at their books.
She'd freaked the kids out again. Guilt, regret, unease... all of it hit Haley like a ton of bricks.
Not long after, she heard a car pull into the yard. Ivan was back.
Haley shut the laptop, splashed some water on her face, and headed downstairs.
The four kids looked at the door, then at Haley coming down the stairs, all sitting there like statues.
Ivan picked up on the weird vibe right away. He walked over to Haley, wrapped an arm around her waist, and asked softly, "How was work today?"
Haley nodded, "It was fine. Let's eat first."
Alfred told the servants to bring out the food. It was a fancy dinner, but none of them seemed into it.
Halfway through her meal, Haley put down her fork.
She looked at the four well-behaved kids and said softly, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you."
"It's okay, Mommy," Todd said with a smile. "We'll be quieter when you're sleeping from now on."
Haley shook her head, "No matter what I said, it was just me losing it. Remember, no matter what, you guys are my most precious treasures."
Owen suddenly burst into tears, "Mommy, do you really still love me?"
Why did it feel like his mom was slipping away?
Haley quickly pulled him into her arms and said softly, "Work's been a mess, and I unfairly took it out on you. It was all my fault, and I'm really sorry. Owen, can you forgive me?"
Her voice cracked as she spoke. She didn't get why life had turned into such a mess.
She'd finally found Ivan again, but Isabel had implanted her with the Bio-intelligent Chip.
She'd finally killed Martin, but the Bio-intelligent Chip left her with lifelong side effects.
If she stayed this irritable and angry forever, how could she be a good mom?
"Haley, I'm here. It's okay," Ivan said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and looking at the kids. "Remember, your mommy loves you, and I love you too. Any strictness is just to help you become better."
