Chapter 49 Filled with Disappointment
With icy eyes, Keith stared coldly at Emily. A chilling sensation crawled up her spine, sending shivers down her body. For the first time, she realized that Keith was even more terrifying than Ivan.
Biting her pale lips, she slowly spoke, "Keith, have you misunderstood something. Haley and I are sisters. Even if I despise her, I could never harm her. I..."
"Mother, the fact that I have come to ask you indicates that I already know certain truths," Keith interrupted, walking down the steps. He spoke each word with emphasis. "I just want to hear the truth. Why did you commit murder, mother?"
Emily had never felt such fear before. Not even when Ivan spoke harshly to her did he fix his eyes upon her like this. How could a four-year-old child possess such overwhelming power?
Suppressing her inner dread, she spoke calmly, "Keith, it wasn't me. I never thought of hurting Haley. It was your grandfather who couldn't tolerate her. Keith, do you know that Haley forced your grandfather to give her twenty-five percent of the shares?”
“Now Haley, has become the third-largest shareholder of the DeRoss Group, and gained control over its operations. Her return this time, was to seek revenge on the DeRoss family. The DeRoss Group will undoubtedly be ruined under her control."
"The DeRoss Group is the culmination of your grandfather's lifetime efforts. How could he tolerate being ruined? So, your grandfather asked me to have someone take care of Haley. Keith, I'm not as malicious as you think. I did it to put your grandfather's mind at ease. I'm sorry, I was wrong, Keith, can you forgive your mother?"
Keith narrowed his eyes, looking coldly at her. "Are you saying that your own father wanted to kill his flesh and blood, his daughter?"
Emily shook her head vigorously. "Actually, your grandfather doesn't want that. It’s all because of Haley's coercion. Keith, if you can help us reclaim the shares she's trying to take away, your grandfather will stop."
Keith furrowed his cold brows and then strode to the sofa, exuding an intimidating aura that made people not dare to approach.
After a few seconds, he spoke coldly, "The conflict between grandfather and Haley has nothing to do with you, mother. And I don't want you to commit any more heinous crimes like today. If there's another next time, don't blame me for not considering you as a mother who committed murder."
Emily clenched her lips tightly. She was actually being threatened by this little bastard. She had worked hard to raise these two little bastards, only to end up fostering two ungrateful wolves. Owen always gave her a hard time. And now, Keith had started threatening her too.
She was their mother. How could these two little bastards treat her like this? Emily felt a surge of anger in her chest. Raging emotions surged within her. She could no longer withhold her anger.
Through gritted teeth she said, "Keith, I brought you into this world, raised you, and how dare you speak such disrespectful words?"
Keith looked at her uncontrolled state and disappointment filled his heart. He simply couldn't understand why this woman could be his and Owen's mother. Like many children, he had fantasized about maternal love, but Emily couldn't provide that for him.
She was always trying to please and flatter him, but there was no love in those eyes. This woman only wanted the power and status of the Winston family, and he and Owen were the tools she used to achieve her goals.
Even though he had long realized this, he couldn't drive her out of his life. This woman had given birth to him, because his flesh and blood were from this woman. Without her, he wouldn't exist.
