Chapter 155
"To have launched a coding firm at such a young age, Haley, is quite the accomplishment," complimented Nicholas as they shook hands, his tone neutral, offering polite conversation.
Haley chuckled, "I owe it to friends who've lent me a hand. Without them, it wouldn't have been this smooth."
A cousin helped secure the office space, and several of the programmers had been referrals from him as well.
Without her cousin's support, her studio would probably still be in chaos...
Nicholas considered this; it was likely more than just a hand - perhaps Haley was merely a figurehead...
But as a seasoned professional, Nicholas wouldn't let his emotions show in front of a business associate. He steered the conversation back to work, "Let's discuss the preliminary design for the project, Haley..."
"Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz—"
Haley's phone vibrated on the desk.
She glanced at the caller ID—Thomas—and promptly declined the call, "My apologies, Nicholas, please continue..."
Nicholas nodded, "I took a brief look at the proposal. You're using Visual Studio for development, which evolves the traditional modules..."
"Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz!"
The phone buzzed again.
The same Thomas was calling.
He hardly ever called, and now two back-to-back calls—something must be up.
"Haley, you might want to take that call," said Nicholas, leaning back in his chair and giving her room.
With an apologetic smile to Nicholas, Haley took the call, keeping her voice low, "This better be important!"
"Haley, after I took care of that major issue for you, you could at least call to thank me..." Thomas let out an audible huff, "I demand a gift as a token of gratitude!"
He had indeed identified a significant discrepancy in the DeRoss Group's books last time.
Haley had already picked out a gift to send to the Ellenstein family, but the moment she got that call, her eagerness to give the present evaporated.
She scoffed, "Come on, Big Shot, a guy with deep pockets like you wouldn't even appreciate my little gift. I might as well save my money and treat myself to a new dress."
"Hey, if you want a dress, I’ll buy you one!" Thomas said with a teasing grin. "What's your favorite brand? I'll have my assistant buy it right now and ship it straight to your place, a limited edition, one of a kind..."
His voice filtered through the phone, with Nicholas catching most of the conversation.
Nicholas had his doubts about Haley's capability to run a company at her young age, and this conversation only seemed to confirm his suspicions.
Despite Mr. Winston's savvy and decisiveness, at the end of the day, he was still a man.
And men, as the old saying goes, sometimes can't resist a beautiful woman.
Haley was undeniably stunning, and it wouldn't be surprising if Mrs. Winston got dazzled...
He feared that their A-F project, finally seeing the light of day, might be doomed to fail again...
Haley listened to Thomas ramble on the other end before coldly hanging up and adding him to the blacklist.
