Chapter 200

It was only yesterday that Emily learned from Keith about Owen's love for Transformers.

Eagerly she had headed to the store first thing this morning to pick up the fanciest Transformers set she could find, as a gift for Owen.

But that little punk had just thrown the carefully chosen toy to the ground...

She wondered if there was anything she could do to strengthen her bond with Owen.

"Emily, Owen is frail and recovering. Emotional upheaval is the last thing he needs right now. Please, it might be best if you wait outside," Alfred suggested with a mix of deference and assertion in his tone.

Emily bit her lip, unwilling to leave.

She was here to mend the bond with her son; how could she just walk away?

"Mom, why don't you take a break outside? I'll let you know when Owen's feeling better," Keith said calmly.

Reluctantly, Emily complied with Keith's request.

She walked towards the door, looking back at Owen with a pained expression.

Upon reaching the doorway, her face contorted, an alarming display of twisted emotion.

Alfred let out a heavy sigh, turned, and exited the room, gently closing the door behind him. Now, it was just the two brothers.

Keith sat down beside Owen's bed.

"Keith, don't try to convince me," Owen bit his lower lip, "I can't accept a woman who calls me a little bastard as my mother!"

His words sent a chill over Keith's expression.

"You remember that?" Keith asked, pressing his lips together.

"How could I forget?" Owen said, sarcasm tingeing his words, “She thought a one-year-old wouldn't remember. She underestimated us."

At the Winston family's gala for his first birthday, many relatives had attended.

He and Keith were under the care of Emily.

That day, he was so excited that he accidentally wet his pants.

Emily had taken him aside to change him, muttering insults under her breath.

He couldn't recall what Emily had said exactly, but the repeated 'little bastard' and her eyes, full of disgust and disdain, stayed with him.

When he learned to speak, he told Keith about it.

Keith fell silent.

It was then that he realized Emily hadn't just scorned him; she had secretly ridiculed Keith too.

Keith had told him to forget it, but he couldn't.

Each time Emily feigned concern, he felt disgusted.

"Keith, she isn’t qualified to be our mother." Owen's gaze dropped, “You know, besides calling me a little bastard, she would pinch me on the inside of my arm when no one was looking. I was too young to resist, so I'd just cry. And when I cried, everyone would say I was the one who was misbehaving, but in truth, I was good. She was the one bullying me in secret... She gave birth to us, but she doesn't love us at all. I may not be perfect, so maybe it makes sense that she doesn't love me, but you, Keith, you're exceptional. Why... sometimes when she looks at you, there's this undeniable disgust in her glance?"

"We're her sons... how can she despise us like this?"

Owen's voice broke through the silence as he cried, tears streaming down and soaking the pillow before him.

Keith's heart clenched with each sob.

The telepathic connection they shared as twins made Keith's own eyes redden.

He handed Owen a tissue, voice barely above a whisper, "Maybe it's because she was just eighteen when she had us. Our arrival... shattered her peace, left her with no other choice..." They were not born into a world awaiting them with open arms, which might explain why their mother seemed to detest them so.
