Chapter 909
Brenda hustled down the hallway and finally made it to the kids' room door.
Just as she grabbed the doorknob, the door swung open. "Mommy... Grandma, why is it you?"
Owen's face dropped like a rock.
Brenda whispered, "Owen, be a good boy. Your mommy and I need to chat. It's girl talk. Angela's a girl too. Come on, let's go see your mommy."
Angela's face lit up, and she hiked up her dress and bolted out.
But Todd threw up his hand to stop her. "Mommy said she'd come get us herself, and only then can we leave this room."
Angela skidded to a halt, tilted her head, and said, "Yeah, Mommy has to call me herself, then I can go out."
Brenda's smile wavered. "Your mommy asked me to bring Angela over. If we're late, your mommy will be mad."
Angela stared at her fingers. The last couple of times she saw Mommy, she was different—no gentle words or warm smiles. Mommy seemed to get mad real easy.
"Okay, I'll go then." Angela turned and waved to Todd and the others. "This is girl talk. No eavesdropping, guys."
Brenda let out a sigh of relief, holding Angela's hand as they walked down the hallway. At the room door, she knocked softly.
Martin's voice came from inside, "Come in." Angela paused for a sec, then got all excited. "Daddy's back too, right?"
Brenda stroked Angela's soft hair. She suddenly didn't want Angela to go in—Angela was her beloved granddaughter.
How could she let Angela walk into danger?
Before she could say anything, the door flew open, and a strong arm yanked Angela inside.
The door slammed shut.
Angela's collar was grabbed, and her big, round eyes darted around. She first saw Haley, but before she could feel happy, her body was spun around.
Martin, with a face just like Ivan's, stared at her. "Hey, Angela, long time no see."
He lifted her up, and she dangled in mid-air, her whole body going stiff.
"Bad guy! You're a big bad guy! Let me go!" Angela thrashed around like crazy.
Haley stood a step away, biting her tongue hard. Only when she tasted blood did she steady herself.
"Martin, please don't drag an innocent kid into this."
"Don't worry, I'll treat Angela like my own daughter." Martin grinned. "From now on, we'll be a family of three."
He looked at Angela in his hand. "Be good. Call me Daddy, and I'll treat you well forever."
"You're not my Daddy! You're a bad guy! You're a demon!"
Angela kept struggling, seizing the chance to grab Martin's arm and bite down hard. She didn't hold back at all. Blood appeared almost instantly.
Martin raised his hand and tossed Angela out of his arms.
