Chapter 806
"Jump!"
The mechanical voice echoed in her mind repeatedly, as Haley tried to resist but failed, too weak to fight back.
And her right cheek was severely painful, as if slapped or half-cut off.
If jumping could ease the pain, she was willing to do it.
Haley grabbed the cold railing and flipped over it.
"Haley!"
Ivan was scared out of his wits.
He pulled Haley swiftly, who was about to fall, into his arms.
"Haley, don't scare me like that!"
He carried Haley inside and locked the balcony window.
Haley suddenly shivered, hit by the warmth of the room.
She slowly turned her eyes to Ivan and asked, "What just happened?"
Ivan stared at her and said in a deep voice, "You suddenly rushed to the balcony and almost jumped off."
"I was going to jump?"
Haley was in a daze.
She struggled to remember what occurred, yet her mind was a blank. The sharp pain in her right cheek stabbed again.
She covered her face and said, "Ivan, my face hurts so much. It's been hurting for a while, and the medication doesn't help."
"I'll take you to the hospital tomorrow. It's going to be okay," Ivan held her in his arms and gently comforted her, "Haley, you don't need to put so much pressure on yourself. I won't leave you no matter what happened. And you're still the most beautiful woman in Watertown even with scars on face. No one can compare to you."
Haley grabbed his collar, "You don't think I care too much about my appearance jump off a building, do you?"
Ivan pressed his lips together in silence.
He couldn't understand why she would act this way except this.
Haley had been acting indifferently these past few days, so he thought she really didn't care.
But what woman in the world doesn't care about her appearance?
No matter how strong, calm, or wise Haley was, she was still just an ordinary woman.
Ivan didn't expect this matter to heavily burden Haley, who now experienced nightmares and had thoughts of jumping off a building.
If Haley jumped, she would definitely break her legs, though the second floor wasn't high.
Ivan, still shaken, held Haley tightly, "I'm sorry, Haley. I didn't care much about you."
"Don't overthink it," Haley cupped his face, "I don't know what happened to me just now either. My mind just went blank all of a sudden. Maybe I just wanted to get some fresh air. Ivan, don't worry, I'm really fine. The scars on my face are nothing to me."
"Think about it from another perspective. You have a scar on your face too. Do you care about it?" asked Haley.
Ivan shook his head, "I don't care about my face as a man."
"I have a husband and four kids. I don't care that much about my appearance either," Haley weakly argued, "Don't worry, I won't do anything dangerous like that again, really!"
She promised repeatedly, and Ivan finally believed her.
But Haley's near-jump from the building kept replaying in his mind, leaving him unsettled.
Early the next morning, Ivan took Haley to the hospital to have her wound checked.
