Chapter 247
The car pulled smoothly up to their house. Haley opened the door, stepping out to lift her two children from the back seat.
"Haley, you're back!"
A tender, sweet voice called from behind her. Turning, she saw a cool little guy in denim charging at her.
"Owen, what are you doing here?"
He clung to her neck, his voice muffled. "I'm so hungry. I'm starving. I want you to cook spaghetti for me."
Haley felt a headache coming on. "Don't tell me you snuck out without telling your dad again?"
"No way!" Owen vigorously shook his head. "I told Father, and he said it was okay before I came over!"
Haley had made it clear—if Owen ever snuck out again, she wouldn't see him. He remembered that well.
That was when a young bodyguard in his twenties approached. "Good to see you, Ms. Haley. I'm Henry, Owen's bodyguard. Mr. Winston asked me to escort Owen here and take him back in an hour."
Relieved, Haley invited them in, instructing, "Todd, keep Angela and Owen company for a bit. Lunch will be ready soon."
Todd nodded faintly.
Even though Owen could be a pain and quite clingy at times, Todd had to admit that the guy genuinely adored his little sister.
He couldn't find it in him to dislike anyone who genuinely cared for his sister.
However, when Todd looked up again, something seemed off with Angela's mood.
Her usually pretty face was etched with a chilling coldness.
That coldness intensified with each of Owen's attempts to get closer.
Yet, Owen was unaware.
Angela had always been the quiet type, so ignoring him wasn't out of the ordinary.
"Wow, Angela, are these puzzles what you usually play with? They look super hard, and they are all the same color. I can't even tell where each piece goes." Owen fiddled with the puzzle pieces.
Angela's arms reached out, snatched the puzzle away, and stashed it back into the box with an icy expression.
Owen picked up some building blocks. "Hey, where did you get these blocks? I've never seen them before. They look like a lot of fun! Angela, can I play with them?"
She quietly shoved the blocks into a cabinet.
Owen scratched his head. "You know, Angela, my teacher says we should share our toys."
Todd walked over with a toy bin and casually said, "This bin has blocks and puzzles; you can play with anything you want."
Owen eagerly dumped the toys out of the bin.
Todd had played with these toys when he was a little over two. It was perfect for Owen, who played to his heart's content, occasionally asking Todd for guidance.
Todd had a book on his lap, half-heartedly answering Owen's questions while casting concerned glances at his sister.
Angela's world was relatively small, with only a few people in it. Owen had barely entered that world. Todd couldn't understand why she was pushing Owen away now.
Todd spent every waking moment with her. There was nothing that could happen without him knowing.
Haley was cooking and watching the scene in the living room.
The three kids were seated on the play mat, looking cozy and harmonious.
