Chapter 113 Glimmer of Joy
Ivan stood outside the villa.
From his angle, he could see the living room perfectly.
Under the dim warm light, the three children sat on the playmat, playing puzzles together.
Haley sat on the sofa, tapping on her laptop, occasionally looking up at the three children, a gentle smile on her lips.
This scene was too heartwarming, and Ivan couldn't bear to disrupt it.
He pressed his lips together and still pressed the doorbell.
"Ding-dong—"
Haley looked up and put down her laptop to open the door.
She looked at the man in front of her, dressed in cold attire, and paused before saying,"Mr. Winston, this is the second time your son has come to see me."
Ivan didn't say anything.
If he calculated carefully, this must be the seventh or eighth time.
There were a few times when Alfred intercepted him, and a few times when the kid came over when no one was home...
However, he wouldn't say these words to this woman.
He stood at the door and spoke lightly,"Owen, come here."
By the time the doorbell rang, Owen had already hidden under the table.
He clutched the table leg, stubborn and aggrieved, and said,"I'm not going over!"
He had finally managed to sneak out and find Haley. He didn't want to be separated from her again!
Even if his father got angry and hit him, he would never surrender!
Owen had even prepared himself mentally to be severely beaten. Who would have expected that Ivan did not get angry or upset at all, but simply said calmly,"I'll give you another twenty minutes. When the time is up, go home."
Although twenty minutes was short, it was better than leaving right away.
Finally, a glimmer of joy appeared on the little guy's round face. He crawled out from under the table, his eyes alertly watching Ivan as he walked in.
Haley said helplessly,"Owen, why don't you play with Angela and Todd?"
After saying this, she found it somewhat funny herself.
Angela was a few minutes older than Todd, so according to that logic, she should be older than Owen too.
However, Angela was born prematurely and was a girl, so she only looked like she was three and a half years old. Therefore, being her younger sister did not feel odd at all to Owen.
Haley smiled, went to the kitchen, ground some coffee, and brought it over, holding it in front of Ivan. "Mr. Winston, have a cup of coffee before you leave."
Ivan took the coffee and took a sip. "It tastes better than the one I had in your studio."
"Then I'll bring this coffee machine to the studio next time."
Haley sat down opposite him, her eyebrows furrowing. For a moment, she didn't know what to say to this man.
She looked at the three children playing together and was about to ask Owen which month he was born in when Ivan suddenly spoke,"Since you're here today, let's give it a try."
Haley was startled. "Try what?"
"Let's try to make Angela speak."
Ivan put down his coffee cup, and his eagle-like eyes swept to the right, his voice cold but with a softness underneath,"Angela, come here."
He beckoned with his hand.
Angela, who was playing with a puzzle, looked up. Her eyes, which usually lacked any vitality, instantly lit up.
Under this dim warm light, they seemed to shimmer.
Angela rarely responded to outsiders' voices, but now, not only did she hear it, but there was also an obvious emotional fluctuation.
Haley's face remained calm, but inside, a storm was raging.
She gripped the cup tightly and stared motionlessly at the little girl's reaction.
"Angela, don't you remember me? Come over here and let me hold you."
Ivan's voice became even more gentle, like the first melt of snow on a mountain, cold but with a visible warmth.
Owen stood by the side, feeling an inexplicable sense of sourness welling up inside him.
