Chapter 726
Haley and the kids, along with Ivan, shouldn't have been living in a place like this. It was all Martin's fault!
Just thinking about Martin made Haley clench her jaw. She had escaped in the middle of the night and had no idea how furious Martin must be.
'Would he figure out we are in Hinterlands? If he does, would he come after us them?' These thoughts flashed briefly through Haley's mind, but her main focus now was confirming Leonardo's identity.
With dawn, all the darkness and evil seemed to vanish. Haley got up early, made breakfast, and changed clothes before heading out.
She drove slowly to the edge of Hinterlands. Security was tighter than before, with patrols everywhere. Everyone was armed, eyes sharp and hostile.
Haley got out, spread her hands, and let the guards search her. She'd been here a few times, and some guards knew she was Leonardo's collaborator.
A guard led her to the villa entrance. More guards were stationed here, surrounding the yard.
Haley lifted the soup she brought and smiled. "I'm here to see Leonardo."
The guard was about to report when Louis walked over, smiling. "Oh, it's Ms. Deross."
After a recent rebel attack that killed many guards, Louis, a low-level guard, got promoted to an internal bodyguard. Leonardo had asked him about Haley, so he knew she had caught Leonardo's eye.
Louis grinned. "Ms. Deross, you're here to see the leader, right? Come with me."
Haley walked in on her high heels. Louis had tried to extort money from her before to avenge York. Now, his attitude had changed. She guessed Leonardo must have given him instructions about her. So, she must be special to Leonardo.
Even if Ivan had lost his memory, he still felt the need to protect her, care for her, and be good to her.
"Ms. Deross, our leader is injured and resting," Louis said, rubbing his hands. "Without his orders, I shouldn't bring you in. If he finds out, I might get punished."
Haley's lips twitched. Louis didn't hide his greed at all. She opened her handbag, pulled out a thick stack of cash, and handed it over. "Is this enough?"
"More than enough!" Louis smiled, lowering his voice. "One more thing: Miss Spencer is in the leader's room. You decide whether to wait in the living room or go straight upstairs."
