Chapter 147

Owen's hands were clenched tightly beneath the covers.

He was so nervous, his eyes wide with anticipation, afraid of seeing Haley shake her head.

Haley paused for a few seconds, lost in thought.

To be honest, she hadn't quite figured out why Angela kept calling Ivan daddy.

Not to mention that time Angela mysteriously made her way from preschool straight to the Winston Group...

Had Ivan slipped Angela some sort of love potion?

But thankfully, Angela was now talking, and Haley believed it wouldn't be long before Angela herself would reveal the reason.

Regaining her focus, Haley met Owen's gaze and said softly, "Angela doesn't really understand what daddy means yet, so she got it wrong. But you know what mommy means, right? I'm not your mommy, and you have your own mommy, don't you?"

At that moment, Owen's eyes brimmed with tears.
He bit his lower lip in a fit of anger and said, "So what if she's around? I don't like her, that selfish woman doesn't deserve to be called my mom!"

A pang of sadness suddenly tugged at Haley's heart.

She couldn't quite figure out why she felt this way.

She reached out and gently touched Owen's cheek, whispering, "No mother doesn't love her child, Owen. Your words would break your mother's heart if she heard them."

"She wouldn't be heartbroken; she doesn't love me at all!" Owen's lip had a pale mark from biting it too hard. "All she thinks about is how to marry Dad and become Mrs. Winston! She's never cared about me, never once treated me like her son!"

The sense of grievance in Owen's heart swelled, and he buried himself in Haley's embrace, weeping softly.

Haley sighed, patting his back tenderly.

She wasn't familiar with the specifics of the Winston family's situation, but from Owen's outburst, she could guess some of it.

The public was unaware of the Winstons having a child, and Ivan had never been known to have wedding plans, which meant Owen was likely illegitimate.

Perhaps, he was a child born from a woman's scheme to obtain the title of Mrs. Winston.

Such a calculating woman indeed didn't deserve Owen's affection...

But no matter what, that woman was still Owen's biological mother. The ties of blood weren't something he could just deny...

Haley pursed her lips and held her silence.

Downstairs in the living room, only Ivan and Todd remained.

Todd held a book in his hands, intently flipping through it.

When he read, he had a habit of blocking out everything around him, and thus he didn't notice that Ivan had been standing behind him for several minutes.

Suddenly, a hand with distinct, slender knuckles reached over and took the book from him.

"‘Introduction to Logic’?" Ivan glanced at the cover, a curious smirk playing on his lips, "Think you can understand it?"

Todd stood up.

He barely reached Ivan's waist.

Short in stature, but not in presence.

He replied coolly, "What's it to you?"

He stood on his tiptoes, attempting to snatch his book back.

Ivan just raised his arm slightly higher, putting the book out of Todd's reach.

He withdrew his hand, lips pressed together in annoyance, "Give it back."

"Answer a few questions for me first,” Ivan said, casually opening the book, “What constitutes a logical fallacy?"

Todd's face was a mask of composure.

He really didn't want to answer this man's questions.

But he knew that without replying, his beloved book would remain out of reach tonight.

He had just come across an intriguing logic problem in the book and was eager to read the analysis.
