Chapter 362
After watching the kids enter preschool, Haley then drove to her office.
She had just entered her workspace when Ariana came over, speaking in a hushed tone, "Haley, there's a really strange person in the office."
Haley raised an eyebrow, "Strange how?"
Ariana continued, "He claims to be the owner of an overseas media company and wants to discuss a personal partnership with Haley. I asked him to wait in the lounge." Her voice carried a note of caution as she added, "He had a mask on his face, which looked pretty weird. Haley, brace yourself before going in."
Haley nodded thoughtfully.
She first entered her office to grab some documents before knocking on the lounge door.
A deep and hoarse voice from inside beckoned, "Come in."
The voice was cold, a sound that strangely translatedsent into a shiver down the spine.
Haley smoothed her hair and pushed the door open to enter.
Two people were in the lounge; an assistant stood aside as a man sat on the couch with a silver mask covering two-thirds of his face, leaving only a pair of pitch-black, profound eyes visible.
Haley guessed inwardly that the man must have injured his face. Hence, the reason he didn't mind wearing a mask despite the odd looks it garnered.
She withdrew her gaze calmly and greeted him with a smile, "Hello, I'm the General Manager of Star Technical Company. My name is Haley."
The man's chilling gaze shifted slowly toward her, his eyes landing on Haley deliberately.
Haley felt as if a venomous snake had fixed its attention on her.
She instinctually pursed her lips and took a step back on her heels.
The man spoke in a deep voice, "You can call me Anthony Gates."
Haley said, "Hello, may I ask what particular business you are here to discuss with our company?"
The man lifted his hand, and the assistant stepped forward. "We've heard that your company excels in smart product chips. Our company is looking to design a smart chip and would like to know if your company handles such projects."
"Of course," Haley, still smiling, "Which specific area?"
"Human smart chips," the assistant continued, "Designing a chip that can be embedded into a human body, one that can read a variety of biological information accurately or, even further, embedded into the human brain to access memories, emotions, intelligence, creativity, inspiration."
Haley, usually calm, couldn't hide her shock.
This project sounded akin to conducting human biological experiments. It was the kind of undertaking that was forbidden in the industry...
"How does Miss DeRoss feel about this?" the assistant inquired respectfully after finishing.
Haley forced a smile, "This project goes against ethics and morals; I won't be involved. Please leave."
"The reward for this project is substantial. In just half a year, it could make you the richest person in Cuenca," the man spoke again, his voice as if it had circulated through an ice cellarcoldly, sending chills to the heart.
His calm yet unsettling eyes stayed on Haley as he continued deliberately, "I can give you a few days to think it over. Don't rush your answer; I will return when it's time."
After he spoke, he stood up and walked out, with his assistant swiftly following behind him.
Once he had left, the aura of the break room gradually lightenedthe temperature in the break room gradually rose again. Only then did Haley feel the oppressive cloud of gloom begin to dissipate.
