Chapter 903

Ivan plopped Haley onto the bed, then slouched on the sofa nearby, eyes glued to her.

He was waiting for something, but he didn't wanna ask.

Even if he did, it wouldn't change a thing.

The sky was lightening up, and the blazing sun was creeping up from the east, kicking off a new day.

Haley's head was pounding harder by the second; she was lying there, about to lose it.

Ivan clenched his jaw and peeked at his phone.

Jared: [Martin was definitely around here last night. He switched cars three times and we lost the tail, but he's in Watertown. He ain't getting far.]

Ivan's eyes were dark and brooding. He messed up; he should've gone downstairs with Haley last night.

He'd given Martin the chance to see Haley.

Ivan bit his lip in frustration, went downstairs, whipped up some pasta, and brought it back. "Haley, eat something."

"I told you to leave me alone. Get out!"

Haley grabbed her messy hair and yelled.

Right after, she winced and held her head, "Ivan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it."

She felt like she was being torn apart. One part of her screamed to go to Winston Villa and take out Todd, while the other part fought to keep it together.

Her head felt like it was gonna explode; she couldn't take it much longer.

Martin was a real piece of work. Hurting Ivan wasn't enough; he had to push her to hurt her own kid.

No matter how understanding Todd was, he'd still be hurt.

Haley would rather die than let Todd feel the pain of being abandoned.

"Ivan, please, just leave me alone. Lock me in here."

Even if she lost it, she wouldn't be able to go after Todd this way.

Ivan's face was full of pain.

He walked over, held Haley, and whispered, "Haley, what did Martin tell you to do this time?"

"If he wants you to hurt me, then do it. It's okay. I can handle it." Ivan said softly, pulling a knife from under her pillow.

He'd figured out that Haley always had a knife stashed somewhere--under the pillow, in the drawer, in the sofa, in her pockets, even in her sleeves.

"No." Haley shook her head, "He wants me to..."

She didn't finish because lively sounds came from downstairs, kids laughing.

Haley's face went stiff. "Ivan, I can't see the kids, no way. Just tell them I'm still sleeping."

She burrowed under the covers, hiding completely.

Ivan gently patted her back. "It's okay, I'll go talk to them and have someone take them back."

Brenda was in the living room with four kids, gift bags by the door.

"Took the kids out to buy gifts and happened to pass by." Brenda smiled, "They said they haven't seen you in a while, so I brought them over for a quick visit. We didn't disturb you, did we?"

Ivan said calmly, "Haley's still sleeping. You can chill for a bit before heading out."

Owen spoke up cautiously, "Daddy, can I sneak a peek at Mommy before we go?"

He'd been really good for the past half month, no fuss. Today, Keith and Todd finally agreed, so Brenda brought them here. Since they were here, he insisted on seeing Mommy no matter what.
