Chapter 755
Haley and the kids returned to the villa carrying a lot of stuff after shopping.
The kids sat in the living room watching cartoons, while Haley went to the kitchen to prepare dinner, and Thomas followed her in.
"I drove Ava away," he said while shelling beans. "I'm sorry, Haley. I haven't been careful with my spending, which is how Ava tracked me down. Luckily, she didn't run into you directly."
"Actually, it doesn't matter." Haley pursed her thin lips. "I just wanted to stay away from her to avoid troubles. But if trouble comes, I will face it. Ava isn't stupid; she might very well reach out to Martin. I've tricked Martin before, so I reckon he'll come looking for me personally."
Thomas sneered. "If he dares to come, you and Ivan can team up and take care of him."
Haley lowered her head to wash the vegetables, her face complex.
Ivan was currently in a state of amnesia. Seeing someone who looked exactly like him, he probably wouldn't act.
And even if Ivan regained his memory, he wouldn't kill his own brother.
Martin was really a tough nut to crack.
They would just have to take it one step at a time.
Noticing her complex emotions, Thomas smoothly changed the subject, "How did things go today?"
Haley smiled. "Very smoothly. Queen Isabella has a daughter, and children are a woman's vulnerabilities. She was easily persuaded. I'll go find Ivan tonight or tomorrow morning to convey the Queen's intentions to him."
Thomas shook his head. "Hinterlands are getting more chaotic, and Quillan's people are always lurking around. Plus, there's tension between you and Isabel. I'm afraid you might get captured by Isabel before you even see Ivan. Just call him."
"These confidential matters can't be conveyed over the phone; someone might be listening," Haley said gravely. No matter how dangerous Hinterlands was, she had to make the trip.
"Mommy, I can block the eavesdropping devices," Todd said obediently, standing at the kitchen door. "Give me five minutes."
He turned and went to the living room, grabbed his laptop, and started typing quickly on the keyboard, with Keith assisting him.
In less than five minutes, Todd looked up with a smile and said, "Mom, you can call Dad now. I promise, no one else but me and Keith will know the contents of the call."
"I want to listen too!" Owen leaned in. "Daddy and Mommy's call must be very sweet."
Angela tilted her head, covering her mouth as she giggled, "Will Daddy say 'I love you'?"
Haley was silent.
She was talking business; how could it be sweet?
She wiped her hands and went to the balcony to make the call.
The phone was quickly answered by Ivan, "Haley?"
"It's me." Haley quickly got to the point. "The phone's surveillance has been blocked, so listen carefully. I met with Queen Isabella today. She agreed to cooperate. You can assign someone to meet her tomorrow."
"Wait three days," Ivan said softly. "In the next three days, I'll have someone keep an eye on Queen Isabella. If she doesn't contact any other forces, it means she can be trusted."
Haley nodded. "Okay. Be careful. I have to cook now, so I'll hang up."
"Haley," Ivan called her, his voice magnetic and soft. "Don't you have anything else to say to me?"
Upon hearing his tone, Haley's heart started pounding.
She pretended to be calm. "What else should I say?"
"For example, do you miss me?" Ivan's magnetic, husky voice came from the other end of the phone, like a current, straight to her heart.
Haley's ears turned red and she replied, "No."
"But I miss you." As soon as Ivan said those words, a chorus of gasps came from the living room.
