The driver started the engine and sped off down the road.
Marcus was gasping for air, lying on the ground for over ten minutes until a street cleaner found him and got him to the hospital.
As the night deepened, Ivan held Haley's cold hand while they walked along the winding mountain road.
After a long silence, Haley finally spoke up, "Ivan, I can't control my emotions anymore. I think I need to see a doctor tomorrow."
She had already seen a bunch of doctors and taken loads of meds, but nothing seemed to help.
"Haley, you're a caring person. It's normal to lose it when you see stuff like that. I don't think you're wrong," Ivan said gently. "If something like this happens again, I still hope you'll stand up."
Haley was taken aback. "Don't you think I'm unstable and violent? Aren't you scared I might hurt you someday?"
She gave a bitter smile. When she was under the control of the Bio-intelligent Chip, she often bit Ivan. His hands, shoulders, and chest still had her teeth marks. But Ivan was never scared of her.
"Haley, no matter what, you're the one I love, and I'll stay by your side," Ivan's voice softened even more, "just like over a month ago when you took four kids abroad to find me. You had only a faint hope, yet you found me in a sea of people. And I hold you so tangibly. How could I ever leave you?"
Haley's anxiety slowly eased. When they got home, Ivan and Haley shared another passionate night.
The news online started buzzing again.
Less than three hours after Hollis's statement, Haley's name was back in the headlines.
Marcus's hospital room was swarmed by reporters. He found a comfy spot to give his interviews.
A reporter asked, "Mr. Miller, is what you said true?"
"You can check the camera on that road to see if I'm lying," Marcus said angrily, clutching his chest. "Haley does have violent tendencies. She kicked me so hard I flew and broke two ribs. I have a medical report to prove it. Every word I say is true!"
"Then why did Ms. Deross attack you?"
Marcus sneered, "I won't go into the details, but she did hit me! This morning, didn't the former president of the Lumi Group, Ms. Lumi, say that Haley likely has a violent personality disorder? She dared to attack her own aunt, let alone a stranger like me! Our Miller Group can't go against the Winston Group. By tomorrow, my interview will surely disappear. Because Haley was so upset, Ivan turned off both of their phones at night. Nothing outside was more important than Haley's well-being.
It wasn't until the next morning that Ivan found out about the news from the previous night.
He glanced at the still-sleeping Haley, then quietly walked to the study, where he saw Todd at his desk, typing away furiously.
