Chapter 917
Ariana knocked on the door and said softly, "Ms. Deross, everyone's here. We can kick off the meeting now."
Haley nodded, shut the file, and got up to head to the conference room.
After being MIA from the company for over two weeks, she needed to hold a meeting to catch up on the latest happenings.
Star Technical Company had blown up into a pretty big internet company in just over six months. The management meeting alone packed a whole large conference room with forty people, a far cry from the original four.
"Ms. Deross, the financial report for this month is out. We raked in a total profit of $16.8 million..."
"Ms. Deross, our top three projects this quarter are all up and running and making killer progress..."
"A week ago, some big-shot overseas investor hit us up with a new idea—bio-intelligent tech. Since we're all about internet smart products, I thought it was pretty interesting and had a few more meetings with them. We had some good talks, and the planning department whipped up an initial proposal..."
Haley's calm gaze suddenly froze. She looked around coldly, "Why haven't I seen the project application report?"
"Ms. Deross, let me explain," the bespectacled client department manager stood up and said, "Since the initial meetings were still in the negotiation phase and nothing was set in stone, we didn't submit an application report. The planning department only handed in the initial proposal yesterday, and we haven't had time to show it to you yet."
"This project is off the table," Haley said coolly. "Our company doesn't mess with this stuff."
The client department manager got all flustered, "Ms. Deross, the bio-intelligent industry is blowing up overseas with low barriers and huge profits. Companies diving into this are making bank. The key point is, the Bio-intelligent Chip industry has a quick return cycle. The product development period is about three months, meaning we could see big returns within six months. If this works out, our company could become a major player in Watertown, right up there with the Winston Group!"
Haley shot a cold glance, "Didn't you hear what I said?"
The client department manager instantly clammed up.
The marketing department manager jumped in, "Our department did some market research on the bio-intelligence project, and the prospects are awesome with big profit potential. I think we should give it a shot."
"Ms. Deross, the technical department has no issues with the proposal either," the tech department head stood up and said. "I've looked into the Bio-intelligent Chip program. It's not super complicated; the main tech challenge is the chip's material."
Haley slammed the file in her hand onto the desk.
A loud bang suddenly silenced the room, making even the sound of breathing audible.
Everyone looked up in shock. In their minds, Haley was tough but fair. No matter what suggestions or opinions they had, Haley would listen carefully. She had never cut them off so abruptly like today.
Plus, Haley's gaze was razor-sharp, making them all a bit scared.
Haley stood up, her slender, tanned fingers tapping rhythmically on the table.
She spoke coldly. "Bio-intelligent Chip is some evil tech implanted in the human body. Who needs that crap?"
Her voice was ice-cold, "They are implanted to leaders' armies, rich folks' servants, and girls trapped in slums. Can you guarantee you won't be targeted? This is dangerous tech, showing up in foreign markets under the guise of high-tech and black-tech. Once this thing becomes legal and common, you might all end up with a chip in you. At that point, you won't have a choice."
Haley's gaze, sharp as a blade, slowly swept across everyone's face in the room. Everyone held their breath, not daring to make a sound.
Haley said coldly, "Don't bring up this project again. I do not approve."
