The vibe in the conference room was kinda heavy.
The tech department head, who'd been with the company since day one, always got along with Haley.
He finally spoke up, "Ms. Deross, there are laws about the Bio-intelligent Chip abroad. With legal limits, this industry shouldn't be all chaotic. We'll stick to industry standards..."
"Shut it!" Haley's face went dark. "Even if I say no, you all still wanna push this project?"
"Ms. Deross, that's not what I meant," the tech head continued. "Within the legal limits, I think we can try some different projects."
Haley grabbed her coffee cup and chucked it. It whizzed past the tech head's ear, hit the ground, and shattered.
Everyone in the room was stunned. No one expected Haley to flip out like that.
Even Haley was shocked. She wasn't usually hot-headed; she always handled stuff calmly. But just now...
And a few days ago, when Owen stepped on her foot, she also snapped.
"That's it, meeting's over."
Haley pinched the bridge of her nose and walked out of the room. As soon as she left, the tension vanished.
"What's up with Ms. Deross? Why'd she blow up like that?"
"If Ms. Deross doesn't wanna do this project, we should drop it. Bringing it up over and over, of course she'd get mad."
"Ms. Deross always respected everyone's opinions. Even when we disagreed, she'd talk it out. She's never lost it like this, let alone thrown stuff."
"Isn't Ms. Deross running for the Lumi Family heir? Maybe she's dealing with some crap, putting her in a bad mood."
"Anyway, let's not mention this project for now. We'll wait till Ms. Deross is in a better mood."
The folks in the room were chatting, while the general manager's office was dead quiet.
Haley stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring at the tall buildings outside. Her restless heart slowly calmed down.
She drank a cup of coffee and then sat down at her computer.
She logged into her hacker account and easily got into the overseas black market. Research docs on the Bio-intelligent Chip were up for grabs for a bit of cash.
Haley had always been a fast reader.
She spent the whole afternoon going through the materials and finally summed up a few points.
Even if the Bio-intelligent Chip in the body could be destroyed, the victim would have major side effects, like random amnesia and irritability.
And the Bio-intelligent Chip in her body hadn't been destroyed, so the side effects would probably be worse.
Luckily, with modern medicine being so advanced, it could be treated with meds.
After work, Haley bought some meds downstairs at the company and took them before driving home.
The security at the Winston Family mansion was super tight, with two bodyguards at the entrance and guards every ten meters inside.
The kids were playing in the living room, and Alfred was with them, smiling.
As soon as Haley walked in, the kids looked up at her, and only the carefree Angela ran over, "Mommy, you're back!"
Haley pinched her chubby little face, "What did you do at home today?"
