Chapter 244

"The most desirable man in Cuenca, you say? Does that mean you're eyeing Ivan, too? Hmm, I wonder how your husband would react if he heard you say that," said Haley in a cold tone.

Barbara's face darkened instantly, "Don't spread rumors here!"

"Why not? If you can do it, so can I," Haley chuckled lightly, "It's just a little exaggeration, isn't it?"

Barbara was so furious she could barely contain herself.

The rumors in the circle and a photo claiming Haley had snatched Ivan had almost given her a heart attack. Like any woman in Cuenca, she had fantasized about becoming Mrs. Winston. Of course, she was no exception, but she knew her limits and only dreamt about it.

If her husband found out about her wandering eye, he'd probably show off by dating younger women.

Taking a last look at Barbara, Haley clicked her heels and entered Justin’s office. She wasn’t concerned about the gossip with the sheer volume of news about her. She couldn’t afford to take it to heart, or it would be the death of her.

"Haley, what brings you here?"

Justin stood up and poured her a glass of water.

Seated on the sofa, Haley casually inquired about some product details, then smoothly changed the subject, "Justin, didn’t you mention a classmate who returned from studying abroad and opened a law firm?"

Justin nodded, "He runs the largest law firm in Cuenca. Why do you ask?"

"I’ve started my own business, and I'm looking for legal counsel. Could you introduce us?" She sipped her water, feigning nonchalance.

She didn't want the Martínez family to catch wind of the guardianship battle over the kids just yet.

Grandma was getting on in years and didn't want to add any more worries to her plate.

Justin pondered momentarily, "He founded the firm and is the most qualified lawyer there. He is always up to his ears at work. It's a miracle if you catch a glimpse of him. I'll ask him to see if he's got a minute to meet."

Haley responded with a grateful smile, "I'd appreciate that."

Justin took his phone and made a call, "Hey old pal, how's it hanging? Swamped as usual?"

Whatever was said on the other end caused Justin’s eyebrows to rise, "You’re kidding me? Did someone from Xyleria reach out to you for legal advice? Your firm is expanding its horizons."

Haley's heart sank upon hearing this.

She knew it was rude to interrupt a phone call, but she couldn't help asking, "Justin, could you ask your friend if his client is a guy named Jeremy Chase?"

After Justin relayed the question and turned toward her, he confirmed, "Haley, he says it is."

Haley's grip tightened on her glass, her voice steady, "I'm gearing up to face Jeremy in court, but it looks like he beat me to the punch."

Upon hearing her words, Justin’s classmate could only offer a regretful response, "I've just signed a contract with Mr. Chase half an hour ago. He’s already forked over two million for the advisory fee. There’s no way our firm can back out of the agreement. If only you'd reached out half an hour earlier, I wouldn't have taken the case."

Haley just shook her head gently.

After a few more words with his classmate, Justin ended the call.

He frowned, "Haley, I know other lawyers. Let's try to find someone else for you."

Haley pursed her lips, her tone determined, "I need someone even more formidable than your classmate. Got anyone like that in Cuenca?"

Justin fell silent.

Having returned from studying abroad, his classmate had poached talent from all corners to create the largest firm in town. In just around five years, they had grown to the top, becoming Cuenca's premier law office, attracting the finest attorneys in the area, with his friend being the cream of the crop.
