Chapter 253
By 3 PM, Haley had driven up to the same office building she had visited the day before.
Today, the building’s entrance was calm and unoccupied, guarded only by two security guards.
She had just parked when a black car pulled up beside hers. The door swung open, and Ivan emerged from the vehicle.
Haley unbuckled her seatbelt and followed suit, stepping out of her car.
Side by side, they walked toward the office building without anyone stopping them.
Ivan took the elevator, navigating through the building with ease, and arrived at an office door. He knocked, then pushed the door open without waiting for a response.
“You actually came to see me in person. I thought you were just messing with me!” The man rose from his chair, but before he could continue, his eyes landed on the woman behind Ivan with a hint of surprise. “When did you snag such a gorgeous assistant?”
Ivan replied coolly, “She’s not an assistant.”
Haley stepped forward with a smile. “Good to see you, Mr. Garrett. I’m Haley DeRoss, a business partner of Mr. Ivan.”
Garrett adjusted his glasses, his piercing gaze sweeping over Haley before turning back to Ivan. “Just business partners?”
His instincts as a lawyer told him there was more to their relationship than just business.
Ivan shot him a frosty glare.
Garrett had a humble background. During his overseas studies, he was kicked out by his landlord and left destitute. That was when he stumbled upon Ivan.
Ivan, from a well-off family, lived alone in a large three-story house and was soon hung upon by Garrett.
After mooching off Ivan for over a year, Garrett returned from studying abroad with some success and always wanted to repay Ivan for his kindness. However, Ivan lacked nothing, and Garrett found it hard to even catch dinner with him. They had never had a proper meal together since he returned from overseas.
“I need a favor,” Ivan began indifferently.
Garrett’s eyes lit up. “Tell me, quick.”
For years, he had been hoping Ivan would ask him for a favor. He was eager to clear the debt of the past.
Ivan gestured for Haley to step forward, and Garrett immediately understood.
His look at Haley became more scrutinizing.
Back in the days when they studied overseas, Ivan was known as a genius at the university, and countless juniors were after him.
However, Ivan remained single until he graduated and returned to his homeland.
Garrett had even wondered if Ivan had some particular aversion. He seemed especially disinterested in women around him. Now, seeing Haley, he realized it wasn’t that Ivan disliked women. It was just that none before had caught his eye.
“Mr. Garrett?” Haley, noticing Garrett’s appraisal, interrupted with a smile.
“I’d like to ask for your help to secure the custody of my children,” she said.
Garrett was taken aback. “Ms. Haley, you have children?”
