Chapter 989
Ivan knew he was being a jerk, but his heart told him it didn't matter—Haley was his wife, after all.
While Haley was still out cold, he kissed her again. One kiss was like a spark, and he couldn't get enough.
"Sorry."
Ivan shrugged off his suit jacket and tossed it over.
Camilla kicked the jacket aside and started buttoning up her collar, a cold smile playing on her lips. "Never thought Mr. Winston would stoop this low!"
Ivan's demeanor softened instantly. "I'm really sorry for what I did."
His genuine apology didn't do much to ease Camilla's anger.
"Do you think that's enough?" Camilla snapped.
She felt something weird on her lips. Even without a mirror, she knew Ivan had kissed her while she was out.
Camilla's face turned icy again. "What did you do to me? Why was I unconscious?"
"You've got some serious dark circles. You probably didn't sleep well last night. I just wanted you to get some rest."
Ivan's voice was low and gentle, with a hint of sadness.
Camilla pressed her lips together, her expression cold.
She hadn't slept well because the Jenkins Group had been slandered. No one in the Jenkins family could sleep peacefully.
And the guy behind the slander, Ivan, standing right in front of her.
Camilla took a deep breath and said slowly, "Mr. Winston, the Jenkins Group's wind power project got government approval, and our quarterly wastewater discharge meets environmental standards. The Winston Group's accusations are baseless!"
Ivan's gaze became a bit distant. He seemed to see the Haley he first met.
Back then, she had the same cold expression, and every frown and smile tugged at his heart.
She wasn't the easily angered and fragile Haley anymore; she was slowly becoming her old self again.
Ivan felt the urge to hold her in his arms.
He forcefully suppressed this urge and slowly said, "Why would you stand up for them as an adopted child?"
"Mr. Winston, that's ridiculous. The Jenkins family saved my life and gave me a home. Why wouldn't I stand up for them?" Camilla sneered. "Mr. Winston, what will it take for you to leave the Jenkins family alone?"
Ivan curled his lips, savoring the moment.
Her tone was intense, and they were going back and forth. She was alive, standing right in front of him, and their future was still wide open.
Thinking of this, Ivan was no longer in a rush.
He leisurely sat down on the sofa and said calmly, "To save the Jenkins family, are you willing to pay any price?"
Camilla pressed her rosy lips together. She suddenly realized that the Winston Group had never been attacked by hackers. That story was just a ploy to lure her here.
