Chapter 801
Haley returned to the living room balcony.
She examined Owen's painting, showing an incomplete winter rose, his technique immature yet atmospheric.
Instead of disturbing Owen's painting, Haley was just sitting beside him quietly.
The afternoon flew by, and it was past three o'clock when Owen completed his painting, just as a car engine sounded from the villa entrance.
Cauth was so immersed in his amazement at Owen's painting talent that he didn't notice what was happening outside.
Haley turned her head, seeing a young man getting out of a black car.
It was Bryan.
She recalled what she had just heard from the servants.
To protect her privacy, Bryan had withdrawn from the race to inherit the Lumi Group.
Haley pursed her lips together and walked over.
Bryan was climbing the steps when he saw Haley, who shouldn't have been there.
He was a bit stunned, "what are you doing here?"
Haley was also a bit helpless.
Cauth had invited her and the children for a meal at the Lumi family villa. Didn't anyone else know?
She said calmly, "Your father invited me over for lunch."
Bryan nodded and continued walking inside, "then you all continue dining. I have something else to deal with."
He spoke in a calm tone and with indifferent expression.
Haley suddenly thought that maybe the servants were just kidding. Bryan was her half-brother, whom she had barely met. How could he possibly give up the inheritance for her?
As she was thinking, Bryan suddenly turned back and said, "You should be more careful when you go out in case of being photographed."
Haley smiled lightly, "I haven't done anything wrong, so I'm not afraid of being photographed."
Bryan was left speechless.
He wanted to speak but was at a loss for words. After a long silence, he turned and ascended the stairs wordlessly.
"Wait a minute," Haley said with a smile, "what is Ava threatening you with?"
Bryan turned sharply, "how do you know?"
The corners of her mouth lifted even higher.
It seemed the servants were right.
But she was really curious about why Bryan would give up his chance as an heir for her.
"Let me guess," Haley said with a smile, "the only valuable news about me is limited. Did she get evidence of my divorce? Or did she take pictures of me with some man, assuming I had an affair during my marriage? Or did she spread rumors that my four children aren't Ivan's?"
Afraid that Haley would stray further from the truth, Bryan admitted directly, "She took intimate photos of you with another man."
"You gave up the race for heir because of a photo?" Haley sneered. "Your dad was inferior to Hollis Lumi for twenty years, and now it's your turn. How can you both be so stupid?"
Bryan was a bit angry, "You can call me stupid, but don't insult my dad."
"Fine, then you're the stupid one, who is stupid to death," Haley said coldly, "The man with me is Ivan, my husband, the father of my children. If Ava releases that photo, it will only help clear up the divorce rumors. You made such a huge sacrifice for something baseless. Was it worth it?"
Their voices were getting louder, and Cauth finally heard them. He hurriedly walked over.
"Bryan, what are you doing?" Cauth said as soon as he spoke, "I invited Haley to our home. Don't drive her away."
