Chapter 846

Oscar and Quentin would totally get grilled by Bark if he found out. Even though they didn't score any perks from Hollis, the rumor mill could be brutal.

"Ms. Lumi, Ms. Deross, we got some stuff to handle, so we're outta here."

Oscar and Quentin forced a smile and bounced.

Hollis smirked and said, "Haley, you gotta chill out. Oscar and Quentin have been with the company forever; you can't talk to them like that."

What Hollis was really saying was that Haley was being a jerk to Oscar and Quentin, and she wanted to paint Haley as someone who disrespected the old-timers.

Haley sighed, "Oscar and Quentin are awesome. I really wanna learn from them, but it sucks they’d rather work with you on those petrochemical gig."

Hollis's eyes narrowed. Was this chick Haley hinting that she was stealing people? If this got out, Bark would totally chew her out.

Hollis just sneered, "Haley, I hope you're still this cocky a month from now."

"I hope you keep being so smug." Haley smiled, strutted into the elevator in her high heels, and took off.

After seeing Haley and Bryan off at the elevator, Lester and Maurice were still on edge.

They had pissed off Ava before by not letting her skim off the project. Since then, she had been making their lives hell.

They knew if Ava became the heir, their careers at Lumi Group would be toast.

They weren't ready to give up the positions they had busted their butts for seven years to get.

They made one last bet by siding with Haley.

"Lester, you think Ms. Deross is the real deal?"

"I dunno." Lester sighed, "This project is huge, and it's just the four of us. It's kinda sketchy."

"Ms. Deross is Mr. Winston's wife. Maybe we can hitch a ride on the Winston family's coattails," Maurice said quietly.

"Forget the Winston family. At the last shindig, not a single Winston showed up. I bet even if they aren't divorced, they're close to it," Lester said.

"Why were you the first to back Ms. Deross with so little to gain?"

Lester started slowly, "Because I had no other choice."

At first, he picked Haley because he had no other options, but later, he was genuinely impressed by her vibe.

Haley was at a disadvantage but stayed cool. She faced Ava head-on, never backing down.

The fire in Haley's eyes, the aura she gave off, the confidence in her every move—everything about her was badass and hard to believe she was only twenty-three.

Lester believed that even if Haley couldn't win this election, she would put up one hell of a fight.
