Chapter 984
Odette's 80th birthday bash ended in a flash.
The Jenkins Family headed back to their mansion, a bunch of them looking all jittery.
It was past nine when Patrick and Micah finally showed up.
"Every influential figure in Brussville was eager to meet that VIP, so they were all lined up outside the hotel," Micah grumbled. "By 8:30, everyone got the boot. Even the mayor couldn't get in."
Elara was floored. "Who is this VIP that even the mayor has to suck up to?"
Patrick took his time. "Ever heard of the Winston Group?"
Odette nodded. "Who hasn't? They're the biggest multinational in Watertown. But they usually stick to big cities and overseas. Why would they come to a small place like Brussville?"
Micah sighed. "The land where our power project dumps wastewater? The Winston Group bought it. They want to make a statement in Brussville, and they're starting with us. Now everyone's freaking out."
"So, what now?" Elara was pacing. "Sawyer's still locked up at the station. His health's bad, and a night there will mess up his back and legs."
Patrick looked up. "I heard the Winston Group's new internet system in Brussville got hacked three hours ago. They're all focused on that and not on us."
Brady's eyes lit up. "So we can use this distraction to bust my dad out."
Micah shot him a look. "No, it means we can help them find the hacker and maybe get on their good side."
Samantha frowned. "Can't the Winston Group find a hacker on their own? They can get anyone they want. Why would they need us?"
Micah was serious. "This is our shot to get close to their CEO. I'll call some friends and see if they know any good hackers."
"Hold up!" Brady turned slowly. "Camilla works in network tech; she might know someone."
Camilla, who'd been quiet in the corner, stood up.
She usually didn't get to speak until Odette gave her a serious look. Then Camilla said, "My company got hit by a hacker once. I fought them off. Maybe I can give it a shot."
Nicole sneered. "Just because you started a company doesn't mean you can handle a big problem for the Winston Group. You probably don't get it. Ten Jenkins Groups can't compare to one Winston Group. Got it now?"
Camilla stayed quiet. Honestly, even a hundred Jenkins Groups couldn't compare.
But she just said, "If Grandma and Dad trust me, I'll try. If not, I won't worry about it."
Odette looked at Camilla calmly. "Micah, keep calling friends for hackers. Patrick, take Camilla with you tomorrow."
This was a backup plan. If Camilla failed, they'd have other options.
"I'll go too," Nicole jumped in. "If Camilla messes up, I can smooth things over."
Camilla stayed silent. Where did Nicole get that confidence?
Brady laughed. "Nicole, it'd be great if you don't cause trouble. Are you even embarrassed saying that?"
