Chapter 681
"Martin sent people to take the unconscious Ivan abroad, to Hinterlands."
Haley was taken aback again.Hinterlands was a region frequently mentioned in the news. It was known for its chaos and darkness, a death zone where even international organizations dared not venture.
It was unimaginable what might happen to Ivan when he was sent there in an unconscious state.
Haley suddenly didn't dare to continue listening, but she had to know everything that happened to Ivan.
She closed her eyes, and when she opened her eyes again, her tears had been forced back. "Katherine, going on."
Katherine instinctively glanced at the door.
She had said so much; if Martin found out, she didn't know if she could live.
"Don't worry. I won't tell Martin," Haley said calmly. "If my husband is still alive, I will give Martin back to you, but if my husband is dead, you will never marry Martin!"
This statement hit Katherine's weak spot.
She took a deep breath and said, "You know that Hinterlands is very chaotic. Martin threw Ivan into the slums and then withdrew all his subordinates, leaving Ivan to fend for himself. The reason we say Ivan is dead is that there has been no news of him from there. He was either absorbed by other organizations or died in the chaos."
Haley's face gradually turned pale.
No matter how she tried to hide her emotions, the subtle pain and sadness still showed in her eyes.
"But I don't think he's dead," Katherine said, even though she didn't believe it herself. "He's so capable; he wouldn't just die in a foreign land for no reason. He loves you so much; he wouldn't leave you alone. Haley, you have to believe that Ivan is still alive."
Only if Haley believed this could she stay in Watertown and continue to stay with Martin.
Haley was about to speak when her phone vibrated.
Someone had accepted the task she sent out the day before yesterday, and she received the information from the other party.
[Someone saw this person in the Hinterlands about twenty days ago, during the Black Party's civil war.]
Haley pursed her lips.
It seemed Katherine wasn't lying, and she probably had no reason to lie.
Whether Ivan was dead or not, it seemed that Haley had to go there herself to find out the truth.
She looked up and said calmly, "You've told me such a big secret; it's not suitable for you to stay in Watertown. You should go abroad and hide for a few days."
Katherine's face changed. "You're not keeping your word!"
"If I suddenly let you stay in Watertown, wouldn't Martin be suspicious?" Haley pursed her lips. "If you want to stay, then you can stay. If something happens to you, don't blame me for not warning you."
Katherine snorted coldly, "As long as you don't suggest sending me away, Martin won't be so heartless."
Haley glanced at her and turned to open the door.
Martin was smoking. When he saw Haley come out, he instinctively threw the cigarette on the ground and stomped it out.
"I failed to persuade her. Katherine still doesn't want to leave," Haley said calmly. "But Katherine promised me she wouldn't trouble my kids anymore. How about giving her another chance?"
Martin's eyes swept over her unkindly.
Katherine quickly said, "Martin, I really won't trouble Ms. Deross anymore. If I make another mistake, I will leave Watertown immediately of my own accord."
"I'll give you the last chance. Don't test my patience again," Martin said coldly, giving Katherine a final glance before looking down at Haley beside him. "You haven't eaten yet. Let's find a restaurant to eat."
Haley said as she walked, "The kids are waiting for me to cook at home. You can take me back."
This was the first time Haley had spoken so kindly to him since she learned about Martin's identity.
