Chapter 642
The next day, Haley woke up early, staring blankly out the window.
She glanced at the time; the kids should still be asleep.
They had arrived at their destination in the early hours of the morning, and the kids would probably sleep until noon to adjust to the time difference. They would likely call her then.
As Haley was calculating the time in her mind, Martin walked in.
He sat down by her bedside and said in a calm voice. "A psychologist will be here in half an hour to talk with you. Don't resist; the doctor just wants to help you resolve your problems."
Haley's eyelashes fluttered, and she gave a bitter smile. "I've seen countless psychologists before. They couldn't cure my mental illness. Maybe I'm too sick, or maybe they're not skilled enough."
As they were talking, the attending physician walked in with a man in a suit.
"Mr. Winston, this is Dr. Harris, a renowned psychologist from Watertown."
Jeffrey Harris adjusted his glasses and walked over. "Mr. Winston, Mrs. Winston, I'm a psychologist, a professional one with strict confidentiality ethics.. Before we begin treatment, I need you to sign this confidentiality agreement. Once signed, no matter what secrets you tell me, I will forget them as soon as I leave this room."
Jeffrey had seen many dark secrets in wealthy families. Signing such agreement before treatment was to ensure that patients would tell him everything without reservation.
Haley lowered her eyes and signed the document compliantly.
After a few words of advice, the attending physician left, giving them some privacy. When Martin stood up and was about to leave, Haley grabbed his shirt hem. "Don't go, stay with me..."
Her soft tone was like a cat's paw brushing against Martin's heart. Martin looked at the psychologist. "Can I stay?"
Jeffrey quickly replied, "You're someone she trusts, of course you can stay."
Someone she trusts. Those words made Martin's heart swell with joy.
Jeffrey turned on a portable player and palyed some soothing music, then began his treatment. "Mrs. Winston, what do your friends usually call you?"
Haley lowered her eyes. "Haley."
"Do you mind if I call you Haley?" When Haley nodded, Jeffrey continued, "Haley, now I'm your friend. You usually call me Jeffrey. We hang out on weekends with lots of friends, having a great time. Can you imagine that?"
Haley cooperated fully. "You're my friend Jeffrey. We often go to parties together. I trust you a lot."
"Yes, we trust each other." Jeffrey guided gently. "So, can you tell me about the nightmare you had last night?"
"I dreamt about my children." Haley's face suddenly turned pale, but she forced herself to continue. "My two children were dead as soon as they were born. They were covered in blood, their eyes closed, and no matter how much I called them, they didn't respond. Then my half-sister suddenly appeared and took them away!"
Haley buried her head in her knees, her emotions gradually spiraling out of control.
Jeffrey softened his tone to comfort her, "Let's not talk about that for now. Tell me about your children. What are their names? How old are they?"
Haley stared blankly. "Right, where are my children? Where are Keith and Owen? Ivan, do you know where the kids are?"
She grabbed Martin's shirt, almost hysterically. Jeffrey quickly held her arm. "Haley, calm down. The kids are fine. They're doing well."
"Let go of me!" Haley pushed Jeffrey away and threw herself into Martin's arms fearfully. "Ivan, take me to see the kids. Are they missing? I'm so scared, really scared."
