Chapter 407 Unexpected Pleas

Haley's fingers paused abruptly, her attention jolted from her work as her head snapped up.

With determined strides, she abandoned her task and made her way toward the office's glass door leading to the outside world.

Before she could even grasp the door handle, the figures of Mr. DeRoss and Flora emerged through the glass, their demeanor fraught with unease.

A cold laugh escaped Haley's lips, her expression betraying a mix of amusement and contempt.

---

It had been two days since Emily's incident, and these two must have been out of options to turn up here.

"Haley!" Flora's voice quivered with excitement upon spotting her.

To an outsider, it might have seemed like a mother reuniting with a long-lost child, such was Flora's fervor.

Haley faced them with an icy expression. "What do you want?" As she spoke, she glanced at her watch, "I have another meeting soon, so speak quickly."

Instantly riled, Mr. DeRoss retorted, "Angela is in distress, and you're preoccupied with meetings? Haley, you must find a solution for your sister!"

A wry smirk danced across Haley's lips. "Emily's plight is not my concern," she stated bluntly.

---

Her smile widened slightly as she continued, "Remember, she kidnapped my son, and he almost died at her hands. You expect me to save her? Do you really think I'm the Virgin Mary?"

Mr. DeRoss's hand clenched in frustration, but Haley remained unmoved, meeting his anger with icy resolve.

"Haley, please, think before you act rashly," Flora pleaded, her arms encircling Mr. DeRoss in desperation. "Emily made a mistake, but she's young. She didn't understand the consequences. I beg you, forgive her. Can you bear to see her waste away in prison?"

Haley's smirk persisted. "Had she succeeded that night, my son and I would have been parted by death," she reminded them callously.

---

"Haley, have you forgotten? Four years ago, the night you gave birth, Keith and Owen were born dead. If Emily hadn't taken your child to the hospital out of the goodness of her heart, you and your baby would've been separated by death a long time ago!"

Flora grabbed Haley's arm, her voice breaking with tears, "Four years ago, Emily saved Keith and Owen. Today, four years later, can't you reach out and save her from prison? I swear, Haley, if you get Emily out, I'll take her and leave Cuenca, and we'll never bother you again. Please..."

But Haley withdrew coldly. "Emily's actions are her own burden. Do not seek me out again," she declared, her tone final.

As she turned to leave, Flora's grip tightened. "Haley, can you truly be so heartless?"

Haley's laughter rang out bitterly. "Five years ago, when you drugged and betrayed me, did you foresee this day? Four years ago, when you set fire to the DeRoss home, did you consider this outcome? And in the years since, aiding Emily's deceit, did you anticipate this reckoning?"

---

She straightened her blouse, her gaze steely. "You've always been heartless. Why should I be expected to care about family ties now?"

Flora's eyes filled with despair. Emily, her pride and joy, now faced a lifetime behind bars.

In that moment, Flora seemed to age a decade before Haley's eyes.
