Chapter 160
She was a 28-year-old master's graduate who had studied abroad and sported a chic ear-length bob, oozing intelligence and efficiency.
Mia snorted dismissively: "After four to five years as customer service manager, your position has been downgraded, not promoted. You're telling me you have no complaints?"
"I respect the leadership's decisions," replied Eva calmly. "It is an honor to assist Haley."
After her statement, she walked up to the manager's office door and knocked.
"Coward!" Mia criticized disdainfully. "Some returnee with a master's degree you are, not even knowing how to fight for your own rights!"
Just then, the office door opened for Eva, and Mia's words clearly reached Haley's ears.
Peering through the gap in the door, Haley caught sight of the uniquely dressed Mia.
This person seemed familiar...
Squinting, she pondered for a moment before it clicked.
Five years ago, at her eighteenth birthday celebration, this person had appeared alongside Emily and even passed her a glass of wine.
So this was one of Emily's friends!
Ha!
Emily had the nerve to sneak one of her own friends into the DeRoss Group!
"Haley, I'm Eva," Eva introduced herself, standing upright and confident before the desk.
Haley diverted her gaze back to Eva, replying indifferently, "For now, you'll be my assistant, then."
She initially intended to recommend Eva for the general manager position since Eva was more than capable—her talents were wasted in customer service.
But when Emily left, Eva didn't stand a chance; Mr. DeRoss had assumed the role, consolidating power firmly in his hands.
She would have to pave the way for Eva when another chance arose.
Haley pondered, then asked, "The employee who was speaking to you, what's her name?"
Eva's fingers tensed. She explained, "Haley, that's Mia. She's quite outspoken and didn't mean to say those things..."
"Bring me all her performance reviews since she joined the company," instructed Haley with detached authority.
Eva felt a sinking feeling in her stomach.
Having managed customer service for several years, she knew Mia like the back of her hand.
Mia was one of Emily's connections, who just seemed to coast through the workday, doing the bare minimum. Yet, when performance reviews rolled around, Mia always came out on top.
Internally, it ate at her, but what could she do? Once, she'd dared to be a bit too sharp with Mia and faced Emily's wrath head-on.
So, she learned to pick her battles. As long as Mia didn't mess up the department's flow, she was willing to turn a blind eye.
She hesitated, then spoke in a hushed tone: "Haley, she's a friend of Haley's. Haley once mentioned..."
"Haley's gone now," Haley retorted coolly. "Bring me her performance report."
With a sigh, Eva trudged off to the records room.
Leaning back in her chair, Haley's eyes were a mask of ice. She wasn't one to abuse her power, but she had zero tolerance for someone who was just slacking off under her watch.
