Chapter 882

The car had barely rolled to a stop at the villa entrance when a delivery guy showed up with a package. Ivan took one look at the address, signed for it, and then wrapped his arm around Haley as they headed inside.

Haley watched as Ivan ripped open the package. He tore through layer after layer until he got to a small box with a dark metal earring inside.

Ivan took apart the outer shell, revealing a crazy network of crystal tubes inside.

Haley picked up the tiny object, about the size of a fingernail, and grinned, "Ivan, give me an hour. I'll go check it out."

Ivan nodded, knowing Haley could crack it since she was a skilled hacker.

Haley took the earring into the study and started working on the computer like a pro. The more she studied it, the more her brow furrowed. This thing was way more complicated than she expected.

An hour later, Haley came out of the study, looking all serious.

Ivan stopped what he was doing and turned to her, "How's it going? Find anything?"

"It's a communicator, but it only has a command-issuing program and no original chip program," Haley said, pursing her lips. "Just like we thought, the original program's task is triggered by signals similar to emotional responses from my body. Besides the original commands, Martin added a variable program. As long as he has this earring, he can control me to do anything at any time."

Seeing Ivan's furrowed brows and heavy expression, Haley softened her tone, "But now that the earring is in my hands, he can't control me anymore."

Ivan pulled her into his arms, his voice rough, "Can we figure out the original program code with the command-issuing program?"

Haley pursed her lips, "Even if we figure it out, it won't help much. We need to access the original database backend to destroy the program."

These biotech companies operated in the shadows, and the original database was their most guarded secret, probably hidden in an even more secretive place. Finding the original database would be super tough.

Someone as twisted as Martin would never reveal the true location of the database to her.

"Haley, have you forgotten my other identity?" Ivan pressed his forehead against hers and said softly, "I was the former leader of the Black Gang, the dreaded mafia of the Hinterlands. There's nothing in this world I can't find."

Haley couldn't help but laugh, "Do you always talk yourself up like this?"

"Anyway, leave this to me," Ivan said, glancing at the time. "It's past five. I'll go make dinner."

He walked into the kitchen and started prepping dinner with an apron on. Haley lay on the couch, her eyes glued to Ivan, not leaving him for a second.

Just as a warm feeling of gratitude began to flow through her heart, she managed to suppress it soon.

Haley leaned back on the couch and started looking at the resort project. With the petrochemical project missing a $700 million investment, it would likely fall behind for a while. She needed to seize this opportunity to press her advantage.

After working for a bit, the kids called. Haley took the phone to the kitchen.

Every time she talked to the kids, she felt their love and longing for her, which was something she couldn't bear at the moment.

Ivan wiped his hands on the apron, turned the camera towards the living room, and said softly, "Do you see? Your mommy is working."

"Why is Mommy always working?" Owen pouted, unhappy. "I haven't talked to Mommy in two days."

Angela tilted her head and said, "Why don't we go see Mommy?"

Keith shook his head, "No, that would disturb Mommy."
